What video card is this?

Hey there TPU, hope you are well. I'm not, been vomiting for seven hours with food poisoning. But that's not important right now.

Have been browsing around and found this video card for sale:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/C...-349910393.htm

I don't think the seller has any idea what the card is, and neither do I really. Does anyone else recognize the setup? Might be a bargain...

MSI predone W/C... My guess is something from the X1800/1900 era, but thats just a guess.

I dont remember them having pre w/c cards for a while now.

fun card to play around with, especially if you're setting up a dx9 rig.

Do you not have a better card than that? For what that is likely to go for you can do a lot better. It's only a DX9 card and there is no Windows 7 driver for it. There is also no cooling for the memory so you are going to be memory bound even if you can overclock the hell out of the core.

In the picture you can see that there are memory heatsinks applied. Sure there's no fan but some good case airflow should help with that. I'd be worried about that bent rear bracket. I know you could just bend it back into shape but make sure there is no damage to the rest of the card since it's obviously had some rough lovin' in the past.

Just saw scam beat me to pointing that out.

I'd stay away from it mate, seller's description rings bells. Implies that he doesn't know whether it works, and is unwilling/unable to test it.

EDIT: And is it me, or does it look as if some of the fins are missing off the fan?

Agreed, if it can cool an X1950XTX then it'd probably freeze my 5770

There should be legacy drivers for Win7. I'm using them for my ati mobility Radeon X1900.

OK guys so sorry I didn't get back to you about this.

I did buy the card for NZ$36 (~US$27) which I thought will be a pretty good deal if it goes.

If not, I will get a self-contained watercooling system which I may find use for.

If that turns out to be of little use, I get a waterblock, pump, fan and heatsink which may all come in handy in future modding projects.

Got some pics of disassembly for you:

Here is the card as I got it:

Taken the cooler apart. As you can see there is nothing wrong with the fan... not sure what you guys were on about up there....

Damn this thing is dusty! I can't believe some people get their hardware get like this. Glad I didn't try to run it like this, wouldn't have cooled very well....

Our chip is looking a bit crusty...

But clean off the TIM and there is the nice shiny R580

And here are the rest of the bits
