ASRock Readies AM3+ 890FX Deluxe5 Motherboard
ASRock seems to be in a hurry to be out with the first socket AM3+ motherboard that supports AMD's next-generation "Zambezi" Fusion Black processors, and so again put its creativity to use. The company designing a new motherboard based on the AMD 890FX + SB850 chipset instead, called the ASRock 890FX Deluxe5. The selling point with this board is the ability to have an AM3+ as early as possible, with capability to accommodate AM3+ processors as they come. For now, ASRock's idea in the public domain is only in the form of a layout drawing.
The typically-sized ATX motherboard from ASRock makes use of AMD's 890FX + SB850 chipset. The CPU socket is compatible with existing socket AM3 Phenom II and Athlon II processors, and future Fusion Black processors. This isn't particularly an advantage, because every AM3+ motherboard in the future based on 990FX will retain support for AM3 processors. On the other hand, 990FX motherboards could also embrace UEFI, something this board seems to lack prima facie. Expansion includes three PCI-Express 2.0 x16, and two each of PCI-E x1 and legacy PCI. Storage is care of six SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the southbridge, two SATA unknown ports and an IDE connector from a third-party controller. Connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF connectivity, six USB 3.0 ports (two by header), a number of USB 2.0 ports, gigabit Ethernet, eSATA, and FireWire. There's no information on when exactly ASRock will introduce this board, but it better be soon, lest it loses edge over 990FX boards. Cool rotated socket board without the 4pin connector in a stupid place.
Also first am3+ board. nice. Asrock do like pitting people to the post at the very least. |

Will the 990fx have any features that the 890fx am3+ has?

Zambezi is die name (like Thuban, Agena, etc.)
Bulldozer is architecture name (like K10.5, Nehalem, etc.) Fusion Black will be market name (like Phenom, Athlon, etc.) |

I think they should start making more componants remote.
I.E that batter could easily be attach by wires to the bottom of the board and then happily sit on case floor. I'm surprised so little componants end up on the back side of boards as well. PLenty of space just wasted ( see mosfets sometimes) |

This is not the first AM3+ to be unveiled, but will be the first AM3+ to reach the market, because it's not using the unreleased chipset.

I'd like to see UEFI firmware onboard modern PC components. Where did the hint that UEFI would be coming in this generation of motherboards come from?

Well, the UEFI firmware is onboard many p67 motherboards; I'd assume AMD would like to see their mobo manufacturers implement it on 990FX boards too.

tbh i think these boards are a waste of time, same features as 890fx which has been out for months and proberly just carry a higher price tag.
i would rather wait for the true 900'series chipsets. with the updated SB and more then likely improved performance and competition from the companies on the new chipset. |

Just noticed the socket it's self is differnt, am3 cpus that go in will be off centre : /
Unless they've made it so the middle is the pin compatible part. (hope so) |

i say bulldozer because most likely the fusion parts will need a new socket/chipset since the video will be on the cpu and all, but well c

Hadn't been aware that any modern pc mobos included UEFI firmware. Good to know, thanks.

Nice... I hope this drives innovation forward for other AM3+ processors. This fall is going to be very exciting with what I predict will be a bonanza of competition and price-drops on key components like SSDs.
