5.1 soundcard?

So I'm getting the Roccat Kave headset. Is Asus P5Q PRO good enough mobo for the 5.1 or should I get a soundcard?

Think about it. Why would you need a 5.1 soundcard for a 2.0 headset?

I don't buy into all these new 5.1 pseduo headsets.

To the OP I think your onboard is enough but look into the Xonar series and Auzentech type cards.

some soundcards / drivers will do HRTF magic to simulate surround from stereo, it works well.

Smile Don't know your budget or headphone ohms but...

The Asus Xonar DG is a low risk low price sound card with a built-in headphone amp.

I would recommend Newegg but the item is out of stock.

Yeah I would look at the Xonar DX (PCI-E) or the DS(PCI).

Depending on the interface you need and slots you have available. Either ASUS card would be great. I am currently avoiding Creative cards like a bad plague.

I don't get all these "5.1" headsets. They are gimmicky as can be. A good sound card and stereo headphones are really good especially with a headphone Amp as stated by Robert-The-Rambler.

I have been reading about bad speaker placement in these 5.1 headset. With my HPA2 the rear speakers are below the ear and it's quite irritating.
