Need a great gaming laptop... and advice.

Wow, it's been a while since I've been by the forums... *dusts off his login info*

So, I'm getting $1400 on Friday and want to replace this piece of crap Dell laptop that I've been using since last May. This thing is just horrid. It works, but at $600 it was not worth it in retrospect, other than that it runs Guild Wars okay.

I want a gaming laptop (cannot do a tower sadly, I'm living in someone's living room and they'd throw a fit if I set up a tower) which is under $1,000 and PWNZ this Core 2 Duo, GeForce Go 7900 GTX geriatric machine in every way possible. A high screen resolution would be useful too, for Photoshop, web, gaming, FL Studio ect...

This is something I've stumbled accross - I like the HD web cam, the CPU, the RAM but dislike the low screen resolution, A LOT.

MSI GT660-003US NoteBook Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73G...

So, er... ideas, please?

EDIT: My eyes are still on the MSI - the graphics are still one of the best in the mobile arena, and it has USB 3... Still put off by the low rez screen though.

I have this Asus N61J here.
It even has a BluRay drive. Also it holds up pretty well in gaming, and using Photoshop with it is also satisfying. Battery lifetime is a laughingstock, but it seems you'll have it stationary anyway.
I myself do not regret buying this laptop.

The 90 bucks its above your budget is easy to obtain. Just save on tissues by fapping less.

if you are spending $90 a year on tissues for fapping you may have a problem

back on topic, that does look like a solid laptop to do some mid-range gaming. but do expect it to get hot!

sure is, quad core with HT too, it will be hugely fast for a laptop, and I know from eperience that GPU will hold up well, A laptop I recently sold with a dual core i5 and mobility 5650 did really well for itself in games (mostly high/max details with AA @ 1366x768 [native res]) and the mobility 6570 definitely has the leg up.

Just ran a Vantage test while monitoring the GPU. 69° celsius tops, in ~22° celsius ambient. Mind you I played hours of CoD in environments of 30°+ celsius and a few sweaty men (army) without problems. Just don't place the laptop on your lap unless you enjoy cooking your unborn child.

That has to be one of the best responses I've ever had on one of my posts.

They musn't be updating their site, they stil only use the Nvidia 4XX series of graphics cards, or they are still working on an efficient way to cool them.

I have the HP ENVY 17 3D. It has just about everything most high end laptops would get you, even 3D (although I rarely ever use it). I just personally wouldn't get a laptop without 1080p resolution, and I've played recent games like Two Worlds 2 just fine on it.

my laptop has no problems with heat, your friend just made a bad choice in model.

I have found that I am entirely GPU limited (with a i7 720QM and a 5870M) in most games. so while the faster CPU might help, really a better GPU is what you need to look for.
