Hello all i will be building a new computer soon really soon and was looking at any suggestions or advice on the parts i have selected budget will be about 1000 bucks

PSU- Corsair HX 650W Modular Power Supply

Thats what I have. If you guys think i can do better for around 1000 bucks from eather

Now keep in mind I am trying to keep this cheap cheap. Yes I said 1000 for a budget but that is like my MAX MAX. So please anybody throw out suggestions I like to hear them all the. One suggestions I won't hear is going to INTEL I am sticking with AMD. Video cards it don't matter but I do perfer ATI.

oh ya almost forgot i might be getting a new monitor too that i have no idea i can never choose a good one any help there would greatly be appreciated

I'd go for slower speed (1333) and better latency for the same money. Low latency seems to be the more important factor, but I'll let some of the memory experts here take that one.

A Thuban 1055T will, by most accounts, OC as well as a 1075 or even a 1090. I would rather have a higher starting clock speed, but several people have said that all the Thubans clock very nicely and it would save you $25 over the 1075.

I guess the only other major expense would be a monitor, but I would guess you will be using whatever is on your desk now.

That i'm still up in the air about not sure if i should get a dual core or a quad
out of the two i was thinking one of these

I believe you can unlock cores with that mobo, so an AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE could be a decent option. They have a reputation for being stable and a high % of unlocking to quad core. If you go this route, get a decent cooler.
A Coolermaster Hyper 212+ would be a good, inexpensive cooler.

Another option is ordering from NCIX.com, they have an online pricematch system, and fairly cheap shipping to Alberta. Even if they are based out of dirty, dirty Vancouver.
I've heard people have had problems getting Memory Express to price match. Not sure if B-Com offers price match.

I do already have a lapped Ultima 90 with a 90 MM tornado fan which keeps my x2 250 at 3.6 GHz plenty cool would that be enough for a x2 560

the real latency of low speed low latency could not be any faster than higher speed higher latency RAM. 1600MHz CAS8 has higher latency in ns, than 1866MHz CAS9. (1800MHz CAS9 is same as 1600MHz CAS8 in terms of latency, but you get the benefit of higher bandwidth with higher speed RAM)

Here is a chart I did a while ago and forgot about until I read your response. I should have posted it to begin with.



Not sure why those 2 lines are highlighted so just ignore that.

Anyway, you can see that for an 8 word block, 1066 CAS5 RAM is about 2 ns faster than 1366 CAS7 - and for a 100 word block, about 200 ns faster.

However as the block size increases, latency becomes much less important. In fact it's not until you get up to 1000 word blocks that the superior speed of 1366 RAM overwhelms the lower latency of 1066.

So I guess it really depends on what you memory access tends to look like. But I've never seen any software that would give you a profile of your usage and I don't know if particular types of apps like say games versus office apps tend to access mainly small or large blocks.

Yes, it is. So the point is that lower latency will often trump faster clock speed.

it might be the case if he bought CL6 1066MHz RAM though.

i just don't know the real answer to this. all i can definitely say is, at the same clock speed, lower latency RAM will give better performance. but is that performance worth spending a lot of money? definitely not.

with the CPU i'm going to try and unlock the cores and if that works out or if it dosen't i will OC it i have been reading the 560's most of them can make it to 4.5 GHz on good air cooling i will see if i can push it to that

Well i just ordered all my stuff in the list but i updated the CPU to a AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM Retail Box i think it should cut it for my gaming needs
