actually there is no Asus tax. Asus takes these and publishes that as a marketing tool for itself (as all flash drive manufactures promote asus) and these flash drive manufacturers can boast with the certification themselves...it is win win.

I will try to find out what the price is suppose to be

Can you boot off the drive and carry your OS with you, settings and all?

if the OS is portable, yes. you can get various portable versions of linux and windows (not legit/supported by microsoft) but its possible.

Odds are that it would be closer to 200 USD + taxes...
