Winrar 4.0[30% faster]
Just saw this thanks too tweaktown.com. Winrar is claiming up to 30% faster decompression rates for specific file types.
Anyways read the change log here: http://www.rarlab.com/rarnew.htm Quote:
Download your OS version here: http://www.rarlab.com/ Edit, can TPU should mirror the download or host to update their version. Also, support it. It's free*, good, and very useful. I've been using it for years. *Free to download the 40 day trial. After 40 days it does ask for a purchase but will functionally still work.

I prefer 7-zip. If you use their native LBA2 compression, you can get some amazing results.

Yeah, 7-zip has all ways been a "faster" zip.. but winrar was all ways the "first" rar program that I came to know and love.. hard to get a person away from something that isn't broken on what they use it for.. I never minded walking away for a zip.. But, to each their own.

It's not free, is it? I get messages saying something along the lines that my trial has expired and it even says "WinRAR is not free!". Nothing stops you from using it, but that message still pops up for me.

I used to use WinRAR but now i prefer 7zip. Especially the new version that sports LZMA2 compression which is insane on multi core systems. Compression is lightning fast now and decompression is like even more crazy. I still miss a bit of multimedia compression but then again pretty much everything is already compressed these days, be it MKV/MP4, JPG or MP3. You can't gain much from these formats anyway. But with binary data, LZMA2 just sweeps the floor with competition.

I remember forums even banning the use of winrar cause they thought everyone was stealing it. I'm pretty sure someone at winrar even clarified they don't consider it stealing to keep using it.

Lol, your right. It does have a 40 day trial period and is Free to download. Still even with expired trials it works just fine.
