No Mortal Kombat for Australia? Refused classification!

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03...or_app_stores/

Quote:
Most recently, the “RC” tag has been applied to Warner’s revival of gaming splatter-fest Mortal Kombat (Warners will ask for the classification to be reviewed).
That sucks

thats terrible. MK was a great game. and just because someone coughs up blood when you kick them in the face isnt a reason to censor such an awesome series

The new game looks INCREDIBLE. Possibly the best one yet (but II and 3 will be hard to beat)

No suprise with that one.

Until we get an R rating for games this will keep on happening. :/

Agreed.
Even an MA rating will suffice, but the retards here in charge of such things are just
Well..
Retarded.

I mean.. look at the whole NBN debacle.

It seems that as soon as logic or common sense is introduced, legislation goes out the window :/

Why do the government feel the need to censor EVERYTHING for you Aussies? It's sad. Is there a story behind it?

Nope, that's the sad part .....

Just some men or women that are hesitant on allowing it because of the harmful and violent content in the games. I assume they live under a rock since the internet has already exposed this a hundred times more than video games have.

The first time I noticed the absence of an R18 rating was when Manhunt got banned because of some kid accidentally killing his brother by miming one of the finishers in the actual game which involved a plastic bag :/ ..

Mortal Kombat receives R18 in New Zealand (which means it's coming out)

Mortal Kombat may be combatting release issues in Australia, but the game is being officially allowed to pulverize faces (and everything else) across the water in New Zealand. The country's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) gave Mortal Kombat an R18 rating recently, which is to say the game's content is "objectionable except if the availability of the publication is restricted to persons who have attained the age of 18 years."

We imagine Kiwis responding to the classification by taking fistfulls of marmite and punching straight through box sets of Flight of the Conchords, while screaming "Get over here" in the general direction of WB Games Chicago. Or just quietly shouting "hooray!" One or the other.

Does this mean that you can't even buy digital copies (over Steam, etc.)? If so, pirate away.

Is the original Mortal Kombat banned too (or "unrated" apparently)?

It means exactly that, as long as we are on australian soil we aren't legally allowed to obtain the game in any way.
If your lucky enough to be caught with anything thats refused classification the maximum penalty is a fine of $275,000 and/or 10 years jail. That hasn't stopped people in the past though and wont stop them now lol

If you mean digital copies of MK, I would say no because it's 360 & PS3 only (I think )

But, obviously, for those with modded consoles, they could download or import lol.
