Can I tell without removing the heatsink assembly ? Also,I was pretty sure only some PNY and MSI cards had 10 chips.

take a pic of the bottom of the card...

it should be in 3 4 3 arrangements

Not sure you can tell from the underside tbh if it has the elusive 10 chips. The PCB was the same for both the 10 and 8 chip cards.

actually you can, if there was no memory chip on the other side of the card, it would not have any resistors on the reverse side - just solder balls.
