“Happy New Year” Worm

If you receive and email with the subject “Happy New Year” be very cautious, it could be a new email worm which is spreading from 160 email domains. The malicious email has an attachment named ‘postcard.exe’ which, if opened, will infect your computer with a number of dangerous codes including Tibs, Nwar, Banwarum and Glowa. Once the worm has done its work on your PC it will then mass mail from the infected computer - according to VeriSign one network is sending out five emails per second with the worm. It’s recommended that users always check with the sender whenever they receive an unexpected attachment, especially if it is an executable.

Received it today, fortunatly my free version of AVG picked it up and quarantined it so I just deleted the muvvaa, I think we should all do some tracking of these Basta*ds who are sending them and find out where they live.....pay them a visit and introduce them to my little virus, it's spanish, has a 10 inch blade and likes to "say hello"!!!!!

I didn't get it, now I feel left out :'( Sure I get the usual tens of buy gifts, clean your pc for free, how to pleasure a girl & RE: fwd: and save stuff. It's just so funny how they try to spam me in English just because I have a yahoo mail (not that I even see 95% of them, as spam filter takes care). Oh and thank god we are not yet in personalized spam-mail era

The spam filter on that is nice and strong I have to admit, but somehow my Gmail account started getting spam in the spam folder after about 4 months, whilst I've had my hotmail account for about 7 years and don't get any spam in the junk mail or my inbox, and loads of strange people will have that address. Don't have a clue how they got hold of my Gmail, not too happy but there's nothing I can do about it - it's all in Chinese so I wouldn't know how to unsubscribe even if they let you

I get about 15 a day... never had a virus sent to me though.

just got it, bitdefender got rid of it straight away...

You gotta seriously wonder about the people who fall for these things, same with those who fall for the update you bank details ones...

I do voluntary work at an old folks home every week and one of them a little back was seriously considering those ones where they say they have loads of money and need you to help get it out of their country... I mean seriously, the fact that its a scam is more obvious then being hit in the face with a brick...

Ha ha if a trojan already got on your PC, good luck trying to remove it...you're in for quite a battle (been there, done that). Best tip I can give you is pay close attention to what's running in task manager. Strange processes may or may not belong to the trojan. If you can't get them all, I'm afraid your best bet is to reformat and reinstall XP.

Oh, great, so I suppose next you'll tell me that I shouldn't have given my bank account information to the late Nigerian oil minister Oloungua Makabunto's son.

Never try to unsubscribe to spam, it's just a way to check that the mailbox is active and forward that email to 15 other spam sources.

Spam doesn't even count to mail quata enymore (not like it would run out anyways) so doesn't really matter how much they spam. Only downside is that sometimes important mail gets pulles to smap folder and with all the future mail it can get lost easily. Had my yahoo account for 10 years now (oh new year, so over 10 :-o), not giving it up :P Got Gmail (and hotmail) too, but don't really use it because of that.

Have been kind enough in yahoo to upgrade it with new features and disc space, was 10MB when I started (or the first number I remember) then went to 100MB and recently 1GB (using 4%). Only funny part it that "Yahoo! Mail Beta" been beta for 6months or more now and worked all the time, wonder why they can't lose the beta word

I don't get junk mail sent to any of my accounts. Except for a person who is sending mail to almost the whole domain for my university, nobody escapes those though. I'm just very careful about whom I give my e-mail address to, so spammers never get hold of it.
