For us Aussies, there's no viable or logical reason to go the nVidia way, when AMD can blow nVidia out of the water with a simple flick of the switch, aside from the usual OC capabilities on either side of the camps. An extra $200 for .. well, for what? |

But it happened when overvolting. So I mean it's not like every card in the world will spontanously blow up.

Exactllyyyy. If a game does demand more, just OC it to HD5870 clocks and wallah, playable(more than that) frame rates again. I see no reason to upgrade myself. Thats why my card either changes if it dies(under warranty, then RMA) or when the HD7000 series shows up(28nm juice) |

They have a safety feature that didn't work. That was the point, how it happened is inconsequential. It's like saying that an airbag not working for a car running at 200mph is not an issue because it happened at 200mph, and not all cars reach 200mph.

The card fried
![]() After reading the review, IMO it seems this card wasn't ready to be released. If the power limiting system isn't reliable at launch, even tho in W1z's review Nvidia states it " NVIDIA promises that their power capping will avoid such conditions by constantly monitoring the card's power draw and reducing clocks if necessary - in all applications" , then this should not have been released yet. They should have worried less about getting the card out the door and more about providing a stable, COMPLETE, and fully working driver. roflcopter :P

to bad it blew up. its been a while since we have seen a card that pops so easily. even the 480's didnt burn that fast. I would have spent more made the card longer and added better vrm circutry because they obviously skimped on that

Kind of a disappointment really. I was hoping for more from the card, especially at higher resolutions.
Now I hope they get off their asses and design a dual-GF114 card to fill the gap between the GTX580 and GTX590. As for the card popping, from my understanding, the way nVidia's power limiter works is that it just lowers the clocks when it senses overcurrent. The problem is that it doesn't, AFAIK, lower the voltage at the same time. So it is entirely possible that if the user overvolts the card, that the card will still be in an overcurrent state, even with the lowered clocks. So by overvolting, the limitter becomes useless.

Minimum Power Requirement is 750 Watt's? My God, does this come with an extra Nuclear Plant to Power those 8V Rail's? ...hd6990 is confirmed at 830mhz, meaning only ~ 5% off the hd6970 clocks gtx590 will need to have an at least 10% slower core clock than its single GPU variant, or it blow your fuses or set your PC on fire and hd6970 CF is already faster than gtx580 SLI in the higher res due to the ram advantage (2gb vs 1,5gb) this will be an easy victory for the hd6990

I hope that you are smart enough to accept criticism
Why nobody notice and say the drivers are young and premature ... You say only when AMD graphics card reviewed. huh ? The worst review I've ever read for a graphics card with such power and engineers sorry i do not like it at all. |
