Lately? Their products have had a reputation for malfunctioning/ breaking too easily for a few years now. Some of their stuff is good and a lot of the stories are just bad luck, maybe it's because they supply a lot of stuff but a lot of it seems to break in a short time. Toshiba TVs last forever in my experience by the way!

My PS1 broke when I used a third party memory card (and it was out of warranty anyway) and my PS2 started sparking after a couple of months, admittedly they replaced it quickly. My gameboy must be about ten years old and I think it still works fine!

edit: OMFG!!! Donkey Kong Land 3 still has my save data!!! And my Gameboy camera still works!!! Gameboy ftw!!!

Reliability was second to none as well, I've only ever had 2 units, and the first one didn't fail, I just took it back just before the years guarantee was out to get a more up to date model.

As for the PS3, well currently its just a POS.

As for the Xbox, I owned one of them too, it was plain just shit, graphics were a modified GF3, and of all things the POS had a Celeron behind it. I never saw an Xbox game the PS2 didnt make look equally as good or better.

sony could have done far better with the ps2, hell me and my buddy have been playing ps1 games on his xbox for years(since shortly after it came out) and at full speed, and dream cast, well if it had supported dvd playback sega would have had the winner in the consol wars of that generation, everybody i knew back then was waiting for ps2/xbx because they supported dvd playback, not because they had better gfx or hardware(they didnt).

you need to read some market statistics, the fail/return rate on the ps2 was VERY high, infact it was worse then the xbox and gamecube combine!!!!!, this was due to design flaws that where not worked out because sony had to rush it to market to counter the gc and xbx.

honestly, ps1 units didnt have as high a fail rate as ps2 but i know alot more people who had to return/exchange ps1's then nintendo or sega hardware, hell most ppl i know still have their orignal NES and SNES in full working order dispite years of abuse, those same people eather have a dead ps1 or have a new version ps1 or ps2 because the old one stoped reading disks(laser spring issues with some older revisions)

and as jimmy said, you can break a ps1 with 3rd party hardware, my buddy ted broke his 3 times by using a high end joystick on it, then he get a rev2(small unit) and its been fine, ps2 on the other hand, took him 4 trys b4 he got one thats drive didnt die(its a 2nd gen one)

ps2 has had a horrible record of failuars.

xbx if not properly ventelated could overheat, but out of the 100+ i have moded only 1 ever overheated, and it was caused by the use of an XBX stand/holder that didnt have adiquit ventilation, the company came out with a new version and exchanged the old ones, the new one has 2 fans that move air around the unit!!!!

I picked up a 360 before Christmas. I NEVER thought it would be this good. Gears of War, Rainbox Six Vegas, Viva Pinata (yes that game too), Call of Duty 3 are all good games. Those games are newer ones too. I played Oblivion on PC, but if its half as good on 360, its still a good game. I have NO interest for PS3 because there is not a single title worth picking up ATM. MGS4 does look amazing, but when will that ACTUALLY be released, late 2007 or most likely 2008. There isnt going to be a drought for 360 games either. Lost Planet, Crackdown, Guitar Hero 2 - Early 2007, then Mass Effect, GRAW 2, Bioshock, Too Human, Army of Two, and need I even say Halo 3 coming later. I know I probably sound like a fanboy, but I didnt own an orignal Xbox, but played my PS2 and GC instead. Xbox 360 is just a much better system than I thought it would be. Finally, let me not forget the best gaming machine, the PC. Too bad mine is a POS compared to 360 for gaming.

I ranted way too long.... Anyway, my main point is that software wins console wars, and with most exclusive being not so exclusive to PS3 anymore, PS3 is going to have a hard time selling.

gears of war....the commercials rock, and from what i was reading its gonna kick for pc, havent seen pc info lately but thats not uncommon since ports many times dont get alot of respect.

frys has about 15 ps3 and about 250 xbox360, and the 360s are selling at a higher ratio than the ps3...and the wii or no doubt sold out.

I had a feeling that might be the case. it didn't make much sense to me to keep it and CoD3 off of pc, unless they were waiting for Vista and DX10.

People don't seem to be saying it was crap, just that is was unreliable. Sony had a huge head start in the PS2/GC/X-Box wars, it should be much closer between the Wii/PS3/360, although the PS3 will probably sell best. The PS2 was still selling at a ridiculous rate a couple of months ago, although I expect that has slowed now.

PS2 sales are still high, as it's the budget console of choice now. As far as PS2 being unreliable, I lucked out on mine. 4 yrs, not a single issue. Everyone else I know seems to get about 2yrs out of theirs before they start having issues.

i would take an old xbx ver pos2, and yes ps2 is crap, people are just to stupid to realise it, many havent seen the diffrance in IMAGE QUILITY if they only own a ps2, and most ppl i know who just have a ps2 are the same ppl that have an old ps1 and snes/genisis and use that as an excuse why they think sony is better ROFL.

ps2 has gotten better for reliability, but the first units where en large CRAP!!!!!(buy the extended warr, u will probbly need it :P )

and the ps2 had high sales also because when a unit dies and ur out of warr most people just buy a new one insted of bothering to try and get sony to fix it(causts less to buy a new one then to ship it to sony then pay a repair fee anyway)

xbox dont have a high fail rate, never did, most units sold are still in use, many people have upgraded them with new hdd's full of roms and emulaters, so they can play their favorite, ps1,nes,snes,n64,turbogfx 16,sega(master/genisis/32x/cd/satern), and most other old games.
this isnt an uncommon thing at all, infact a buddy of mine still makes money moding peoples xboxes for them!!!! he charges like 165bucks to slap in a 200gb hdd full of games and such, also allows you to playback dvd's without a dvd remote kit(using game pad) and a bunch of other stuff, quite impressive how much craps on them when hes done!!!!!!!

ps3 wont out sell other units because its not really much better then a ps2, slitly better gfx and bluray arent worth shelling out so much $ for.

xbx360 and Wii are better choices, tho the name Wii is icky to me :P

i personaly wont buy any of them, as i have said, consols are for people who cant deal with pc gaming and want everything handed to them and dont mind comprimises(like loosing 1/2 a game because they removed the "boring" parts!!!

hes been doing it since a few months after the xbx came out, hes done it for COPS!!!!!!

its worth it, the hdd alone isnt "cheap" and the software took alot of time to test and make a proper setup/config for, the really nice thing is that it will also let you image games you play alot to the hdd(HALO!!!!!) so they load faster

its sad i came late to this but G4 did a old console test to see what would survive the most "abuse" (they dropped the consoles spilled stuff on them used them as Frisbees etc.) and well the xbox went fist then the ps2 and the damn gamecube didnt break till they lobed it and the entire case came off and the button wire no longer worked oh and im going to have fun with the PS3 adds in PSP X

main reason ps3 is doomed is because developers have already said they DO NOT want to make games for it because it would take them so much longer to develop the games due the overly complex/under powered cell processor so if you lose the enthusiasm of the game developers your pretty much screwed just look at the games available now for the ps3 only like 3 of em are original the rest are all just ports of other games

not at frys, they dont keep display boxes out for stuff, those are REAL boxes, hence the packing straps and wraping.
