Sapphire Radeon HD 6790 Pictured
Sapphire is ready with its Radeon HD 6790 graphics card, all the more reason to believe that if not all, some AIB partners were ready for a 3/31/2011 launch before it got delayed to next week. Sapphire's HD 6790 is a non-reference design card that in many aspects resembles the company's base model HD 6870. It By the looks of it, it uses the same PCB, same exact cooler, but a different rear panel. Sapphire's card packs 1 GB of GDDR5 memory over a 256-bit wide memory interface. Based on the 40 nm Barts-LE GPU, it features 800 stream processors, and clock speeds of 840 MHz core, 4.20 GHz memory. It draws power from two 6-pin PCI-E power connectors. The rear panel resembles HD 6850, with two DVI, and one each of full-size HDMI 1.4a and DisplayPort 1.2.

once again Sapphire provides us with a nifty cooler! I wonder if this will be one of those cards where this is no reference cooler? Can't wait for the reviews!

Seems interesting. Too bad Barts doesn't support Quad-XFire.
![]() Same cooler as mine, different shroud. Just like any other Sapphire non-reference card on this performance level. |

Nice cards but not really an improvement over a 4870 or even my 4850 for that matter. I am still looking at dual 6850//70s for my Bulldozer rig and BF 3.

True enough. It's essentially 4890v3 (4890, 5830, 6790) aimed smack dab between the 5770 and 6850. At least it should be better than GTX 550 for around the same price...That counts for something...I guess.

I wonder if it will unlock just like the 6950....
Would be quite awesome to get a 6870 for a discounted price

im so confused is this a dual card? because when i see **90 that makes me think of the 6990. or is this supposed to be like how the 4890 is a really fast 4870 so this 6790 is a fast 6770 that hasn't been released? or is this just part of a crappy name?

think 4890, and naming consistency fail.

Two 6-bin connectors? Doesn't the 6850 only need one? :\

Its the same thing with the 5830, the gpu has less muscle so they clock it up to compensate and end up using more power.
This thing is basically a 6830 as it is based on the Barts gpu. The difference is this time the "6790" has the full 32 ROPs enabled, which should prevent it from suffering the same fate of the 5830.

So we'll be able to crossfire a 6700 card with a 6800 card?

The only thing that may make this card worth is if it's unlockable to 6870 shaders and core clock. |

no offense to you, but i'm from a completely different part of the world. 4870's never cost that little here.

When 5770 launched it was 160-200. So I'd say there has been improvement, and having owned both cards I'd have to say the 5770 was a far better card( easily over-clocking past 4890 levels) |
