I have a strong dislike for both SLI and xfire, so I can't recommend either of those. The SB platform is great, but I really can't recommend that over what you have now either.

I'd get away from the Creative card and pick up an Asus Xonar DX or something.

What's the rush?

Your PC is good enough to play games or what ever , save your money (you'll have more) & wait for Bulldozer just few months away (June or July) & than make a decision but right now it would be a bad move to change socket IMO

If you're truly running 3 monitors in eyefinity, I'd say grab the 2nd 6950 now, and look for further upgrades later on (as Goodman suggested - wait for BD)

With 2-3 months left before Bulldozer arrives and with such a powerful system already... do wait or invest in stuff that'll work with any platform.

For example:
  • A really good and/or big SSD
  • Periphery? A mechanical keyboard, or some great mouse, or good cans?
  • Or as Hat said - a better sound card?

I really wouldn't be switching platforms just yet. Yeah, I know that itch is an itch, but scratch it smartly

I'm just wondering why people are hating so much on the X-Fi cards?
I know I had issues a DECADE ago, but products, support and drivers since then, have been nothing but exemplary for me :/

Because of the crap Creative has pulled in the past, I'll never consider buying anything from them.

I've had crap pull on me by..
Well, TBH, EVERY manufacturer, without exception. Should I go with that, then I wouldn't be using a PC, or a console, or anything electronic in any way.
I draw the line with S**y, because they have continually screwed me and my customers over, but I'm happy to give virtually anyone a few chances.
That said, I understand any frustration full-well

If you really wanna play with something adding another 6950 and an SSD is the way to go. Mechanical HDDs are the biggest bottlenecks in any system your jaw will drop from the speed difference and you'll be increasing your gaming experience with an added GPU... whereas upgrading to a new platform will only provide you with the latest tech to give you headroom for future parts.

He has a point, I don't even see the Windows welcome screen when I boot up my computer. A SSD will give the most noticable performance boost.

I'd like to avoid entertaining this any further than this post, but to answer your question, it's because they still haven't fixed the audiodg memory leak issue. Oh wait, they have, as long as you go to your sound properties and disable sound blaster enhancements... you know, all those cool features you expected to be able to use with your $150+ sound card. The issue is brought on when you use features like CMSS, which expands 2.0 audio to your other speakers... quad, 5.1, 7.1, whatever.

Odd.. perhaps this needs to be taken somewhere else then, because I remember vaguely how this subject was broached a week or so back, and this isn't an issue for me at all. In fact, my AudioDG, IF it's called on, *never* exceeds 14mb - EVER, no matter what.
So.. either I've been lucky for the last 6 years, or.. actually, I can't think of an 'or' XD
Music is my life, and I use my X-Fi Elite Pro for music creation (amongst other things) and have to make sure all of this stuff is working right.
That said.. there will always be hiccups along the way for some (or many, depending on the issue).
I've just not experienced those at all - be it under XP or W7

Sigworthy! See?

I vote for just buying an SSD. If you still feel an itch after a couple of weeks, you could go with another 6950 but I think you'll be happy enough just with the performance boost from an SSD.

Grab a second card and the SSD, then, in the future you can move those parts to a SB, IB or Buldozer build once the dust has settled and a clear winner emerges
