From what I've found so far they all should do better than the reference cooler, but which one is the quietest?

Is there one even quieter?

u need to keep in-mind that the Asus Direct CUII uses 3 slots while the Phantom uses a little more than two slots.

and all ref. coolers are two.

Golden sample is very noisy, Phantom is inaduible under regular load, can be noticable noisy with burning tests, DCUII I believe it is even quiter than the phantom, but it looks so freaking fugly. I'd go with Phantom.

Thanks.

Chevalr1c, you think the Frozr should be even quieter?

I own this one from Gigabyte;

and the thing is ridiculously quiet. I can only really find reviews on the GTX580 version, which I believe is actually louder stock for stock and is highly praised for how silent it it.

the card also runs very very cool and overclocks like a madman, well worth considering if your after a non reference GTX570.

it was a reaaaalllly close call between the Gigabyte and the Asus DCII model, and I basically flipped a coin over it. with the Asus it takes 3 slots, but also has a backplate, however I am skeptical that the cooling is actually better per say. the Gigabyte windforce 3x cooler has another fan, and uses vapor chamber tech as well as heatpipes. its darn good.

Well, I dont know about the noise production of the Phantom, but the Twin Frozr II should be comparable to the DirectCU II (AFAIK, best search reviews to verify that). You may find it look nicer than the DirectCU II, though, so if looks are important for you (e.g. if you have a window in the side panel).
I mentioned the card to give another option, rather than an absolutely-number-one choice. Sorry for not making that clear. Best check out which of them is available and at what prices, as the noise production of the DirectCU, Twin Frozr II and Phantom are probably very close to each other.

P.S.: I see now, that the Phantom has got three fans, so potentially it is quieter than the dual fanned other two (assuming the fans of the Phantom spin slower). Best check reviews for verification.

Personally I would not buy palit/gainward. Their custom PCBs are designed for cost savings, not quality, as evidenced by their poor overclocking.

+1 to that, I've made the mistake of buying a custom design thinking it would OC better, yes it ran cooler than a reference card but OC'd poorly by comparison. twas a GTX260 c216 fyi

Twin Frozr II cards sometimes suffer from fan vibration at higher RPM. There is a 570 Twin Frozr III Power that has the newer and quieter version of the heatsink available.

lol, who cares how it looks? I spend more time looking at the screen than inside my case ;)

Besides fugly is in the eye of the beholder really.

I've got the 580 Direct CUII and it is damn quiet.

But all the above mentioned cards have their own pros/cons, yet will still do the job.

I think it is 6+1, the same as a stock GTX580. not to mention it uses better components and PCB than a reference design. this gigabyte card has a serious thumbs up from me.

I've maxed the voltage at 1.1v, and shes rock stable with that much juice running 925mhz core. has been for weeks.
