H50 775 Backplate fit 1155?

Got my new parts in today
-i5 2500k
-2x4gb G.skill ram
-MSI P67A-G43 mobo

Reading online seems to suggest that the 775 bracket works with 1155/1156
I cant figure it out it seems like it's a hair too small and I cannot get it to fit in a reasonable way. Something I'm missing or do I need to order a new bracket? If so where might I find one??

It makes a difference as to which way the inserts are put in the metal ring. Be sure the tabs on the plastic insert are facing the right way. Also keep in mind, that metal ring is somewhat flexible, so it may be just slightly off but should still allow you to be able to mount it.

Unfortunately there is no way this 775 bracket is going to work, all combinations and rotations and stretches were made and it does not fit. This is the original h50 if that makes a difference, came with 2 plastic brackets with 2 metal back plates. Even if I could stretch the plastic bracket enough to get through to the other side the back plate would have no chance of lining up. I'm thinking since the 775 is soooo close I might just drill the holes out just a hair. There is enough room to avoid traces and what not but I'd rather have a proper bracket.

Well I did drill out the holes ever so slightly and now I can get the screws through, but there is still no chance of fitting the back plate without breaking something, likley the motherboard, So I think a quick trip to lowes and a little brain power is in order now. Ill post back with what I end up doing.

What ill probably end up doing is getting 4 nuts that will fit the threads and a small piece of metal to go diagonally from 1 corner to the other and some rubber pad to provide support behind the CPU like the stock bracket would have.

I do believe for 775 you need to use the AMD plastic inserts, spun backwards. These would be the single holed inserts.

I think you are referring to a newer version? Looking online at new H50's they have different style metal brackets whereas I have 2 plastic brackets. I think it's the original H50 design that I have, probably why I'm having issue.

Did the original versions support 1156, even?

My brackets have three holes in the backplate, one for each socket, and there is a different backplate for AMD installations.

The metal bracket sneeypeet is refering to is the block retainer installed over the cooler's pump and coldplate, not the backplate; I think there's some confusion there.

The single hole inserts are for 1155/1366, and the double hole ones are for 775/AMD, on my newer versions; each gets swapped around to support whatever socket.

Now they are blue and green inserts correct? The one I used had all black inserts.

The instructions were screwed up with my H50. I had to use the 775 mounting instructions.

I would contact Corsair directly and explain your upgrade, and you disappointed in the lack of the cooler to follow you with the upgrade. My guess is they are likely to just mail out the kit, no charge.

Yeah peet, my hardware is just the same as yours. What was missing form the original grouping was the AMD mount, which nv40pimp here has(original mount hardware).

I did check my instructions, and I've got the clip bits backwards, dual hole for 1155/1156/1366, single for 775/AMD. You were right.


Meanwhile, I'm using the wrong ones!

Corsair should just mail out the right mounting hardware..or at least, they used to, when they introduced the new mounts.

Glad to hear I'm not completely crazy, I was about to have to admit to using the wrong ones on the Antec 920 I just tested if I had it backwards

Woo, I'm up and running!

I ended up taking the back plate and just cut off the threaded ends and using them rather than the whole plate. At first I was worried that it may bend the mobo cause no support, but after putting it in there was very little bow to the board, no more than what it would ahve been anyway, plus the board has a small metal backplate for the processor anyway providing pretty good support.

i5 2500 stock for now
-Idle temps: 25-29c
-Load temps: 44-51c

Now it's time to clock it

I would still see if you can get the right hardware. Temps can only improve with better pressure on the CPU I was actually going to say just get some washers and nuts from the hardware store, but destruction is always more fun. Glad to see you got her up and running.

I swear I remember reading a thread a long while ago when 1156 came out that Corsair would provide free upgrade mounting hardware to H50 owners. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit: Oops, it was Noctua that did that, sorry. I'd still give Corsair a call and see what they say, I would bet they would send you the mounting hardware without hassle.

Well I got in contact with a rep at Corsair and I have a new bracket on the way, no charge!
