Huntkey Displays X7 Post-Apocalyptic Case Concept

There are plenty of current and upcoming games set in a post-apocalyptic scenario, the limited few who are deep into the survival-horror and adventure settings will find this new case from Huntkey interesting, even otherwise the rustic industrial looks should get some. Called the X7, the case comes from one of the more popular case and PSU manufacturers selling in the eastern markets. The Huntkey X7 is an ATX full-tower case that features an industrial, almost post-apocalyptic design scheme. The side panel uses not just two-dimensional painted structures, but also three-dimensional metal shards sewn together by a network of screws.

It's not just the random shapes these shards are made of, but also the physical texture, that add originality to this design. The case looks like it's supported by a central SECC-made frame with shards all over it. The front panel looks like a set of random drive bay and fan bay covers, one even has a worn-out StarCraft logo. The surface carries splashes of rusty colors, worn out silvery surface, and patches of red, denoting that the "pre-apocalyptic" X7 may have been a metal-overall case with red paint. Inside, the case has components located in places where some of the first ATX tower cases had them: PSU on the top, a top drive-cage with four 5.25" bays, and one 120 mm rear exhaust apart from two 120 mm front intakes. There are top-exhausts, too, but they're made to appear like they've been drilled out later. The case is sure to make heads turn at LAN parties. Make sure you complement it: go dressed in a worn-out anti-radiation overcoat.

Protip:

Throw your case down the stairs a few times, sand blast or give it a run down with sand paper, leave in the rain for a week.

Let it do this by it's self.

Cables dangling everywhere, obstructing airflow? I find top mount PSU cases less neat than bottom mounted, but that is just personal preference, so yeah, mostly aesthetics.

Other than the reasons listed above, I don't like the PSU blowing hot air in to the case.

They do if you have a top vent, otherwise you have to point them downwards and they blow in to the case. That's all I'm on about.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone, and if you have a case with a vent up top, congrats.

My only experience with a top mounted PSU was a shitty pre-built and it had no top ventilation, so I wasn't speaking from vast amounts of knowledge, I was just asked my reasoning and I answered.

That is why you buy a modular PSU, or some zip-ties.

It doesn't matter how the PSU is possitioned, they always suck air out of the case, not blow it in.

The fan/s on a PSU pull air from the inside of the computer case into the PSU and exhaust it out the back of the PSU outside the case. That is why top mounted PSUs are better. They are sucking hot air out of the case, while a bottom mounted PSU sucks cool air out, and at the same time the heat generated by the PSU is rising into the case when it is at the bottom. A top mount PSU's heat doesn't rise into the rest of the case.

That is what you would do if you are not budget constrained. Modular PSUs are quite a good deal more expensive than their standard counterparts.

It doesn't matter how the PSU is possitioned, they always suck air out of the case, not blow it in.

Yes, but they expel the air that they intake somewhere. My pre-built had the fan facing downwards, and no vent on top. I didn't see any place for the hot air to go, besides into the case.

This was in the 90's, and my parents bought it from a local shop. I knew jack shit about computers at that time, so I guess my local shop shouldn't have been building computers.

That is my one and only experience with a top mounted fan.

That is why I said Zip-Ties. A big bag of them are like $5 and you can just tie the extra cables up out of the way.

Yep, aesthetics are the only real difference between top and bottom mount psus. Isn't tpu a great place to learn?

As for the case, I find it stupid and ugly.

btw as already newtekie1 wrote in a previous post the natural flow of hot air inside the case is from bottom to top and a big fan psu act like a case cooler (like i have) so is not about aesthetics is more about functionality
