I can't wait to get a card capable of that.

I just got back and played a few games on BC2 and turned the V Sync off. This is one way I stress test. BC2 uses alot of GPU and CPU it dips into the Hyperthreading on a 4GHz i7 920 pretty hard. the avg fps was 128 and min of 92 max of 199. The liquid cooling helps the 480 clock so well. They have very stout VRM/PWM circuitry and can take the voltage when temps are very controlled. The hydro-copper blocks are the best of the bunch but they cost alot. The thing I noticed tonight after reading this thread is that even though the monitor is only 60Hz, running that fast felt smoother than V-synced so I guess BC2 doesn't support Triple-Buffering.

Agreed, it uses about 80%+ on 6 threads/"cores". I felt like I was playing better with the V-Sync off, it really did respond faster now that I payed attention to it.

That's essentially what I will do in August is Liquid cool the secondary rig with a new setup that I have been tinkering with. External Radiator on the top of the HAF932 and then everything else like pump inside and this system will get a reservoir where as the other one doesn't. There will be 1 230mm fan inside the top blowing up and 2x120mm ontop outside blowing up and the extra thick black ice radiator will be mounted on top of the fans. very minimal tubing outside and it should do a good job with the 580 q9550 combo which i might take to 4.4GHz if it does indeed get there.

That sounds like a nice project, dude.
Make sure to post in the project section, along with lots of tech porn pictures of the rig.Any chance of upgrading that CPU to something like an i5-2500K or similar? They perform a lot better, so I'm just thinking if you're gonna pimp it out like that, you might as well get a more powerful engine to put under that bonnet to go with it.

Well I was thinking LGA2011 but for right now the money is going toward a new car and a SSD setup in the form of a 510 intel. I will post some pix of the main rig although I might have already ill look. But hopefully I can grab a 2011 if not a Sandy 2500k is the perfect replacement for that Q9550. I could prolly still sell the Q9550 UD3P combo for a decent amount its still a stout combo but your right BF3 is going to run like a champ on Sandy since its so CPU heavy.

I've got v1.0, because none of the retailers had the later v1.1 revision at the time. Which do you have?

hopefully that link works here is a few pix i had on my laptop and I made a project log since I totally forgot to do that. I'll keep adding more to it as it came along last year before I show the new setup I just talked about this august. Off- to Try BC2:Vietnam with the V-sync off to see if it affects those blotches everyone complains about. |
