I was thinking that if a games database is put up, it should just allow users to review games by selecting a value for the various sections (gameplay, graphics, story, etc.), not by typing in verbage.
That way you would not have to worry about what people might write.

I think a lot of the video options should just be done with youtube, honestly.

Though I do like the idea of a saved game repository.

Making a new profile for arma or arma 2 on my controller is not something I want to do again. Also, so many times I have ended up with a corruption or reformat issue where I loose all my save files. Would be nice to have some kind of database to help get back that information.

Linking to outside sources is a no no? like for software? I know people generally go to the main site now a days. Better to make sure they're getting the up to date versions but a lot of people find it hard to find the main site. More to the point, there are a lot of fake main sites out there and this site could offer a stress free link to the "real" main sites, that we trust and use.. Even if you just linked to them you would still get the hits and the flow thru traffic. That's a good thing isn't it?

Archived drivers might not be a bad idea as well.
+1 to this . Saved Games/CFG Files database its a very nice option .

the game review idea sounds pretty good, but there's already too many sites that do that with great rep. IGN is where i, my bro, and pretty much all my friends go before buying a game.

I agree. There are already 4,635,134 gaming web sites out there.
TPU should not try to compete.
I just would like to see a database where the game information is listed, and members can rate the games' aspects on a numerical scale (ie. 1-10) so that people can get a feel for what TPU members think of the game.
No text reviews, just numerically based opinions that can be easily searched for in a database by developer, genre, rating, etc.
This too could be trolled, but as more members input their numbers the fringe reviews would be overshadoed by statistical averages and should be pretty accurate.

Just my 2 cents.

Adding older drivers like the agp ati drivers. I had a hard time finding working ones online for my 4650 agp.

Yea, i could see where you're going with that. I thought of a list of games when i read your post, and then each game could be clicked on and it'd show the minimum, recommended, and maxed requirements. Though the max would have to be judged by user(s) since devs don't provide that. I think i've seen max req. for like 1 or 2 games in my entire life, can't remember which just that it blew me away when i saw them on the box lol.

Was thinking along the lines of drop down menu/listing or each game could have its own page depending on how much info were to be included. This actually doesn't sound like too bad an idea, how many websites do you know that list as many games as possible, in a simple fashion, with the quick spec listings for them. Course great idea's don't always mean more traffic.

That's what i want to see, TPU move up. Should be a top 10 tech site forsure.

The only issue I would see is censorship. You would have to remain diligent on that.

Edit: What about animated gifs for senior members lol

Youtube sucks currently, with too many ads, and their current bandwidth is only around 4Mbps and for me it is horrible at 1-2Mbps due to traffic shaping.

Game trailers and user in game footage for user reviews, and possibly incorporate video into your current reviews W1zz, your camera should be capable of it, and then all the users can hear you speak. Or just use it to show some of your sound levels from different systems.

If you recorded certain events I'm sure we would also watch them, like encouraging some of the girls at events to say hello and pose for you.

For awhile I had a site and hosted "Foamy" videos occasionally to drive more website views. Or other videos I hijacked and shared....

Linux distros are available over torrent, and much faster as well as trying to keep multiple distros up to date and then user complaints about not having the one that is wanted.......and file size for multiple distros burns up disk space.

We first have to ask what is missing from our site, or reviews, or what will drive more traffic.

How about a video of how to:
Assemble PC's
Install memory
Change CD drive
Install XXXXXXX component
Hook up/setup eyefinity

I like the idea of a picture account linked to your forum account. So you can review each pic you've uploaded, like Attachments.

Also, since no ideas given above were deemed good enough, perhaps it might be possible to use that extra bandwidth to increase the size of uploaded images from 2MB to say.... 4 MB?

I like that idea too, especially for certain CPU coolers that can be very difficult to fit. At least if we get a new user asking for support (who isn't very computer-savvy), we can link them straight to a TPU-based video showing how to fit RAM or reseat a CPU HSF, rather than linking them to youtube or trying to explain it laymen style.

I used to disagree with that idea, but now I've got broadband I'm all for it

But I would like to see an option in the UserCP that allows you to view all pics as thumbnails; like attachments are; rather than loading the whole 2MB pic and then resizing it. That's why the Attachments are a better option for people with slow connections (doesn't load the whole pic on the page, just a thumbnail)

steams servers can often be slow as crap. i can downloat at 1.2MB/s with a 4 threaded (download threads, not CPU threads) download manager, whereas steam is lucky to get 200KB/s.
