HIS Unveils the HIS 6970 IceQ Mix Flexible-Eyefinity Graphics Card
In May, HIS announced long awaited HIS 6970 IceQ Turbo and Standard IceQ models, which received ardent response. HIS always makes great products even BETTER! To set up Eyefinity in a more flexible way, HIS just launched HIS 6970 IceQ Mix, providing an easier way for gamers to run both AMD & NVIDIA GPU and enable Eyefinity via HDMI output.
What’s more, Dirt 3 game coupons and 4 cables: DisplayPort toDisplayPort Cable, HDMI to DVI Cable, HDMI Cable and DVI to VGA Adapter are also included in this model to deliver you serious high-definition gaming frame rates with Eyefinity 5 in a more user-friendly way. In the past, you need to crossfire your card with the same AMD Series model. But HIS 6970 IceQ Mix grants you power to enjoy the benefits of running both AMD and NVIDA GPU in the same system. Furthermore, most graphics cards require connecting the DisplayPort output or using the active DisplayPort adapter in order to perform Eyefinity. It is not only costly but also inconvenient. With this HIS 6970 IceQ Mix, you can easily set up Eyefinity with ANY of three outputs or All five outputs for multi-display gaming. HIS HD 6970 IceQ Mix Key Features and Advantages:

Ahem, to the designers at HIS, you are making toys for grown men and women not toddlers... thank you. They've made a 300-400 AUD card look like a 10 AUD toy
I much prefer the older IceQ designs for the 4xxx series.

Two very interesting features, specifically the second; runnign AMD and nvidia GPU together, you say? ![]() I do not understand this one....requires special HIS nVidia drivers, or did HIS pay nVidia to have thier cards excluded from the driver block? Tell me more, HIS, tell me more! |

I like the way at least someone is still pushing the exhaust coolers. You have to either use crappy reference coolers where fan fails after 6 months or you have to use gfx cards with cooler where all the heat is dumped inside case. It's really a shame that other vendors aren't developing similar solutions as well...

I like it. Two of these plus a PhysX card. Wonder if that combo would be a win. The card looks nice. It would look more like a toy if it was a Galaxy card.

I like it! It looks like a big block of ice with a badge on it!
That's a big boy toy! I want one.. TWO! Does it have voltage control? Who can be upset with 23c cooler than reference! If it has voltage control and those temps that = WIN. I could care less of how it looks.. plus when it's installed all you're going to see is those kickass heat pipes!

Why are they using those awful fans? I thought Gigabyte learned their lesson with their terrible line of G-Power CPU coolers that completely flopped... The original Arctic Cooling Silencer design was far quieter and superior overall.

Do you loose out on brand specific features when you mix GPUs? like the better quality AA of the 6900 series and NVIDIA's physx?

The fan on the old Silencers barely moved any air and the GPUs back then were rated about about a quarter the power output of today's furnaces. These radial blowers are vastly more effective for airflow. I also had a few of those old Silencer fans have bearings get noisy even though they were touted to have a "ceramic bearing" of amazing longevity.
The looks are fine. Frosted plastic and blue are their idea of making you feel cold lol. It's really not a whole lot different than the old Silencers other than the frosted look. At least these companies have stopped competing on who can have the most garish anime-inspired sticker. Last edited by swaaye; Jul 14, 2011 at 07:14 PM. |

I had a 4870 ICEQ and I hated it. It got so hot even with the fan on MAX.

thats the stance that most GPU partners have taken. No more 3rd party cooling until the card is out of warranty, and warranty is important as no one wants to be left out in the cold with a £300+ ($485+) brick for a graphics card. putting the users in a 'catch 22' situation. damned if you do, and damned if you dont. Void warranty if you as much as change the thermal paste on the card. Or just let the card run hot and sound like NASA sending a rocket into space. after coming off a pair of 5850s with Twin Turbo Pro's mounted. I am very unhappy to see almost every main ATi/AMD partner has changed their warranty polices and stances on enthusiasts who want to mod their cards. however, Depending what part of the world you are from. the warranty differs. European warranties are ridiculous. where as people from places like North America and other places from the same region are able to do whatever they want to their cards and not void warranty. All of it puts enthusiasts who are always in pursuit of cooler and faster running cards in a bind. Especially those of us who want to water cool the cards soon after purchase. I dont understand how they could have double standards on warranty. we all pay for and buy the same hardware, Some of us pay more due to the currency conversion and VAT, and yet we cant all be on the same page when it comes to warranty?? and thats one of the major things that have really pissed me off recently after i got in touch with XFX about putting new thermal paste on. I was gonna send my 6970s back to the shop and go with sapphire branded 6970s until i read their warranty policy. then i went to HiS and done the same. the only people that possibly allow you to change the cooler on the cards is probably Powercolour because they havent been really clear about their warranty policies on their page. It really pisses me off. Next thing their gonna say it voids warranty if you overclock your cards

They probably would if they had any way to know if you had or not.

I like the look. If it is like my HIS 5750 card that clear case is UV reactive and looks great in a UV lit case.

This Card would be great, if Hydra wouldt be such a big fail... if they took more time on improving their drivers and scaling... so that at least a HANDFUL of games scales more than -20% to +20%... i would actually look into it.... but well... will take probably years until they have ironed out the major quirks and bugs... sad, but true..

When I ponder the exhaust aspect of these coolers, I think about how much better the aftermarket coolers that don't bother with little tiny exhaust vents perform. The 6950/6970 stock cooler is an exhaust design and it sounds like a hair drier while trying to keep these chips under 90C. That's because, well, it shares a lot with a hair drier
.Gimme a HR03, Accelero S1, Trad2, Setsugen, Twin Frozr, etc instead thanks. |
