Corsair Announces New Enthusiast Series Modular PSUs

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced the Enthusiast Series Modular line of power supplies. Enthusiast Series Modular PSUs share a platform with the award-winning Enthusiast Series TX V2 line, with the TX V2's fixed cable set upgraded to a modular cabling system consisting of an attached, fully-sleeved ATX 12V cable and a complete set of flat detachable cables that allow system builders to use only the cables they need. Enthusiast Series Modular PSUs are 80 PLUS Bronze certified, delivering at least 85% efficiency at 50% load. Yeah, we really need more info on what cables are attached and which are modular.

I'm fine with a few permanently attached cables that I'm always going to use anyway. However, with only 4 modular connectors, I have a feeling there is still a lot of attached cables that are going to go unused. Either that, or the TX850M is going to be really limited on what you can attach to it.

If we assume they are similar to the HX series, then the 24-pin and 8-pin are attached, along with two 8-pin PCI-E connectors. So the modular system on the TX M series leave only enough room for another 2 PCI-E connectors and 2 SATA/Molex connectors. I mean, I guess that is ok for the lower units, but for an 850w I'd want at least another set of PCI-E connectors.

The modular connectors look more what CWT uses, judging by the type and color.

The TXM650 seems to be competing with the HX650W, tho. They are both Bronze and modular, plus the price is about the same. So maybe the HX650 is going away.

Ehhh, I don't really see the price justification when you can already get 1 of the HX line of PSU's for about the same price + it's 80 Plus Silver certified.

Ok, let me explain.

The HX850 is $175 on newegg, but Corsair says the price should be $200. So if Corsair is saying the price on the TX850M is $170 it will likely be cheaper on newegg. I would expect that actual price once it hits newegg to be in the $150 range.

I thought that the actual price would have been higher when it was available for purchase....I guess it's the other way around

Indeed MSRP, is different from actual retail in most cases.

Yeah, I really wish they would have released these just a few days earlier. I mean I just bought an HX850 and I would have totally gone with the TX850M instead since it is cheaper and pretty much just as good.

IMO when the power draw is roughly 50%, over all quality matters a little less, and 50% is usually the sweet spot for efficiency, which is why I bought 3, for folding rigs.

my first post was not about you purchasing the old TX series for $125 (a good price), it was in response to the initial post and the stated MSRP of the corsair modular TX v2 series. they are re-branded seasonic PSU that XFX also sells. XFX sells the 850w for $155 ($140 MIR), the 750w for $130 ($110 MIR), hence the real world price needs to be lower.

The TX850M is listed at $150, and will likely have a MIR bringing it down to the $135 range in a few days. CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850M 850W ATX12V v2.31...

Though the $10 shipping is kind of odd too, I'm guessing that is an error on neweggs part, because I've never seen that high of shipping from them.

It is modular, it just isn't fully modular. By your logic the HX series isn't modular either.

IMO, making the standard connectors modular is stupid, there is almost no reason that I won't be using a 24-pin and a 8-pin CPU, so might as well make them permanant. From what I've seen it looks like on these PSUs, the 24-pin and 8-pin CPU are permanant as well as two 8-pin PCI-E connectors. The rest is modular, I don't have an issue with that since an 750-850w PSU is probably always going to use those connectors(and if you aren't, then you shouldn't be buying an 850w PSU).

that link goes to the TX v2 non-modular units. The price for the semi-modular are not the same, all we know is the MSRP as posted above in the start of this thread.
