British Educational Communications and Technology Agency warning UK schools away from Vista
The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency is warning public schools to not buy Windows Vista. They claim that deploying Microsoft's next generation operating system is risky to say the least, and the benefits are as of yet unclear. The main reason behind this is the lack of "must-have" features, and a lot of "technical, financial and organisational challenges associated with early deployment". In response to this, Microsoft claims that individual consumers (such as schools) should try the product out for themselves before saying yay or nay to it. The Agency warned UK schools not to deploy Vista for at least another year.

indeed! id like to think that maybe the government could have schools use Linux instead it would be way more cost effective

the main reason people stick with windows is because used it first, if they taught linux in schools i bet alot of the kids would stick with it to adulthood.

lol you guys think about this kind of thing too much. Think basic, what is required for vista, quick processors and more then 512mb of ram. Public schools have what? Slow processors and less then 512mb of ram. Upgrading 400 dell computers to 1gb-1.5gb is not exactly cheap especially with current ddr prices and most schools all over the world have relatively tight budgets. Not to mention the cost of purchasing 400 vista OS. Also schools use alot of educational programs for PCs and since those programs are not so mainstream many will have compatibility problems with vista.

That should tell you something about Vista if a public agency is telling a school not to deploy it. I have to say I Agree with them. Its not like XP, its an entirely different system with a bunch of add ons and not much more secure. Lets face it, no OS is secure, even Mac's and Linux get viruses and shit (though like 3 % do, Microsoft is 100% hackable, virus, etc). I myself am going to wait as well until its improved and more research is done on it.
