Dell Intros UltraSharp U2412M Monitor for Businesses
Dell announced the new UltraSharp U2412M monitor for business and enterprise environments. This 24-inch monitor uses an IPS panel that provides viewing angles of 178/178 degrees, its stand is designed to allow a number of orientation adjustments, including tilt, swivel, pivot and height. The U2412M features 1920 x 1200 resolution, with 1,000:1 static and 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratios; 300 cd/m² maximum brightness, and response time of 8 ms (GTG). Display inputs include one each of DVI, DisplayPort, and D-Sub. A 4-port USB 2.0 hub completes the accessories department. Backed by a 3 year warranty (extensible to 4 or 5 years), the Dell UltraSharp U2412M is priced at US $399.

I can never complain about another 1920x1200 monitor entering the market but...D-Sub? Why can't that die on modern LCD screens? Come on, what computer these days doesn't at least ship with a DVI-I port? And D-Sub analog signals look like crap on digital displays.
If my Samsung T240 dies, I'd definitely be interested in it though. It would be a cold day in hell when I buy a 1920x1080 computer monitor. ...and IPS even.

What does the M stand for? Specs seem fairly identical to the U2410, though the U2410 is rated 6ms and the U2412M is LED backlit...
In any case, can't wait for some reviews. I've seen the U2311H in person and I quite like it. Might put the T240 for sale if U2412M reviews come praising. |

At last, 1200 pixels high! This looks nice, not the greatest specs but I'm still using a 2405 purchased in 2005 and haven't even considered getting a new monitor.

The new stand looks pretty good. At $399, it's pretty good for a 16:10 (dying breed) 24" IPS.

Why are you guys complaining about d-sub? It comes with DVI, DisplayPort, and D-Sub not just d-sub. A d-sub will let you dock your Windows netbook, Displayport will let you dock your iMac, and DVI for your desktop/workstation. I think it's great they offer all 3.
But at 24" I would have liked 1440 in the "y". Shame. Waiting for an IPS y1440 monitor in 24" (or less) format... Nonetheless this is a great price for IPS and those specs. Step in the right direction for Dell.

1920x1440 (4:3)? Not impossible but not likely either. DVI's limit is 1920x1200 which means it would require a dual-link cable.

Think 2560x1440 is what he was saying (like the U2711) which I believe could also be transmitted through the DisplayPort.

This may be the one to replace my Asus VW266H 1920x1200.
It would like better beside my Dell U2211H rather than my current Asus ;~P

It annoys me to no end the lack of HDMI inputs on monitors. It's an epidemic that just won't go away. Have they never seen inside a game studio? It's very common to have dev consoles hooked up to the same screens as the workstations.

Dell classifies these as office monitors, that's probably one reason for VGA still hanging on.
This is basically the LED update for U2410. Also 100$ cheaper.

A nice DELL monitor.
Will have to see if any of the reputable local sellers have them in stock. IPS 8ms keep up with TFT 2ms? |

If they include a HDMI --> DVI converter, I would be happy with this monitor

Ohh, that reminds me. Why not axe VGA and put DVI-I ports on it instead of DVI-D. They could include a VGA -> DVI-I adapter. It's sad how DVI-A gets no use.
