LCD/LED monitor choices
I just sold my last two 24" monitors, so I need to pick up something very soon. Anyone have any suggestions on something 23" to 26" and height adjustable? I'd love to have a LED and Display Port would be a bonus, but both are not necessary. IPS is probably out of my budget though (~$250 shipped).

I was not as happy with my Asus monitor as I was my Samsungs, but I'm thinking of going with this:
ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widesc...

I was going to suggest the VE248H until I found links to youtube on a ghosting issue.
I suppose you can purchase a VESA height adjustable stand if the monitor has a mount. |

I was thinking 1580 Newegger's couldn't be wrong, and 90% thought it was above average.
I have seen some Samsung LED TV's in person and they were a huge difference in brightness between those and the CFL LCD's.

I know what your saying. A local shop had a bunch of monitors running and I was able to see what each one had to offer and see how they looked. Mabey the open unit was defective but it had alot of graying around the edges on dark scenes. Dont you have a best buy or such to see the comparison on monitors?

It's 50 miles away and they have crap for selection. About as much as my local Staples, which has maybe 10 monitors...

Have you thought of the option of choosing a DELL?
I know their pre-built desktops are much left to be desired but thier monitors seems to be good. I'm actually thinking of going the DELL route this time after seeing so many of the top manufacturers having duds. I personally am cautious of going the Samsung route again since finding the ghosting issue on my monitor then finding out the cheap capacitors used in it. |

I saw a Dell on NewEgg that I liked:
Dell P2411H Black 24" 5ms Height,Swivel & Tilt Adj... TBH, I'd rathewr have this one, but I know it's not in my budget: Dell UltraSharp U2410 (464-7346) Black 24" 6ms HDM... We use Dell systems at my work, and theior monitors are great (I'm using dual 2007FP's - 1600 x 1200 res), but we have had some issues with bad caps on other older Dells. Actually, my secondary 2007FP doesn't respond to the front panel buttons (gripe, but I'm too lazy to RMA it)...

My Brother has an old 24" 2ms 16:10 DELL ultrasharp and it still runs flawlessly which has made me think of getting one myself.
But apparently we now pay a premium on those monitors compared to a few years back. |

Still can't decide. I can't find one with everything I want in it. I either have to give up a 3-year warranty, input types or something else...

I was into Samsung also, but decided I need a little bit bigger monitor(15"). So I pick up the VW246H, I've had it for almost 2 years. And I Love It!

Have you thought about eIPS monitors? TN can't compare with IPS. Just recently I bought Dell U2311h. It is really great monitor, not to expensive (185€) and with overdrive I fell no lag effects when I play games or watching movies. Once you try IPS you will never go back to TN... There are other monitors with this panel like LG IPS236V or LG IPS231P...

My ideal is 24", LED, 3-year warranty, height/tilt/swivel/pivot adjust, thin bezel, and DVI & HDMI inputs (DP is a big bonus).

Just did a search on NewEgg for IPS panels and found this one:
NEC Display Solutions EA232WMi Black 23" 14ms Full... It looks like that might be the one to go with. I'll have to dig up some review later tonight...

Stretch that budget!!!! It is well worth if you do!!! If I could do it in Serbia, you could do it many times more in USA...
LG IPS231P-BN Black 23" 6ms IPS Panel Full HD Heig... http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new That NEC is more expensive, and 14ms it is very slow (no overdrive).. |

But the LG's only have a 1-year warranty, and I have not had good experience with LG stuff in the past.

Biggest reason why I got ASUS was the price at the time, I believe I paid around $170 (Christmas) and plus the good review. The inputs are a bonus for me, when I first got it I was using HDMI(looks beautiful), but now DVI till I get another cable. |

When I was doing some searching for monitors I also saw the NEC range, unfortunately they are not available here.
I would possibly think of giving them a shot as well since they have the longest warranty if they were available here. But I have not looked into the NEC monitors any where near as much as the other brands. I was looking at a LG2486L but the bezel and light show was too much. I prefer something like ASUS and DELL when it comes to design. Boring because I would rather be concentrating on the screen. EDIT:- irrc the BX2331 will not be an option if you are planning to run straight DVI as it only has a D-SUB and HDMI whcih comes with an adapter I think. |

Dont get the direct LG, as they have no overdrive applied. Their response time is actually like 20ms in reviews. Dell or Asus is a good choice.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Asus-ML239H/16533422 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=308864 Amazon is also a good place to buy from. Anywhere that has a good return policy on monitors. Newegg IS NOT a good place to buy monitors from. They do not allow returns for refunds. Amazon you only want direct, not from a merchant. No hight adjust stand, but the screen looks good as my friend has it. http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ML249H-24...OG?ref=prid-20 I like VA panels better personally. Better contrast and black level, but worse response time lately. I have been waiting to see the NEC EX231Wp how it turns out. Its a PVA, its response time in spec is pretty high, BUT I think thats just how NEC rates their stuff. NEC tends to put the MS time before overdrive and RTC. In constrast LG claims its 6-8ms with no overdrive whatsoever even as a option, being 20ms in reality. EDIT: Btw, keep in mind about response times. No IPS or TN film will reach above 1000:1 in contrast ratio. IPS tends to fall below spec (900:1 often) and TN film around 970:1 or something. Only VA panels reach close to their 3000:1 or 4000:1 specs. Also Dynamic contrast ratio is useless. |
