SteelSeries and Ignite Announce Hardware Development Partnership for New Online Game

Today, SteelSeries, the leading manufacturer of premium-quality, competitive gaming peripherals and Ignite Game Technologies, an online gaming company focused on building a new form of auto racing game, announced their partnership and plans to bring an exclusive new form of racing controller to market, later this year. The partnership is being announced today in conjunction with the announcement of Ignite’s online racing game environment, Simraceway.

The joint venture was formed to examine innovative ways to improve driving game controllers and will leverage SteelSeries’ deep expertise in professional gaming equipment with unique expertise developed from Ignites' research into improving the racing game. The hardware will be designed to work with all major PC racing titles but will work particularly well with Ignite’s just announced online racing game environment – Simraceway.

“It has been a part of who we are as a company to collaborate with professional gaming teams in identifying features and technologies that will enhance gameplay; whether it’s with peripherals that improve how teams hear approaching footsteps in an FPS, or the ability to create multiple layers of macros for more efficient raiding in MMO’s, it’s this joint force that sets what we do apart from the rest,” said Bruce Hawver, CEO of SteelSeries. “The Ignite team has applied that same outlook to their gaming platform, by working with the best, most recognized drivers in auto racing. For the past 10 years, SteelSeries has worked with competitive gaming teams to support, design and build peripherals that will impact and improve their professional game-play, while Ignite has focused on developing the most realistic live, online racing environment. The new racing environment, Simraceway, set to launch this fall, will feature simulation grade driving physics and have a strong focus on close, hard, live multiplayer racing. Some of the world’s top racing drivers will be using the environment for both practice and fun and will be competing alongside everyday gamers. To further enhance this environment, SteelSeries and Ignite Game Technologies are working together to create a unique device that will greatly improve upon current racing game controllers.

simraceway are the real deal. steelseries peripherals are top notch also. however, developping a wheel for pc simracing is very hard to do. you can't do it right at first attempt. fanatec, logitech and thrustmaster are far ahead due to their experience. it would be great to see some real competition in this segment, but i just can't see how steelseries could pull this off.

Time will tell, I am all for it personally, the more competition the better the device and the better the price.

LOL, every Thrustmaster wheel i have had has failed either due to gear shift or even the wheel coming lose and falling of. In fact they went cheaper and backwards now as they don't even use a bolt and when they did the bolt was plastic while the shaft was metal and was always prone to come lose.

There just melted together now near enough.


Wont take much for Stealseries to put any of them in place.

you aren't aware of the thrustmaster t500rs, which is the best wheel right now (under 1000 dollars price range)

That thrustmaster is pretty nice, but I'd probably get a logitech G27 instead, mostly due to the 6speed shifter. It feels more natural to me to use a stick rather than padels, tho those would be great for drag racing. The thrustmaster does have better turning, 3x I think while the logitech is 2.5 which isnt bad. I guess I like having a stick better because my real car has one lol. Its nice to shift down from 5 to 3 to zip past someone then go back to 5 lol. Or with a 6 spd 6 to 4 then back. My car isnt the fastest in the world, but I manage to get through traffic well enough. Its a 96 elantra thats been through hell.

I welcome more competition to the racing wheel market, I have been eye-balling a few wheels, and haven't quite found one I like for the right price.

t500rs is technologically best right now but what's coming from fanatec is mind blowing: search clubsport wheel on google.
p.s. the t500rs will receive a proper shifter, not a toyish g27 one
