I voted Sandy Bridge-E, mainly for the X79 chipset (no USB3, PCIe3) but I also hoped that a pure CPU would make good use of the extra die space left by the missing GPU components. Of course, they added two coes and doubled the L3 cache but that didn't seem to affect performance that much.

In closing, SB-E is a hotter, more expensive platform with no visible benefits over SB.

The BCLK implementation in X79 is a welcome change but overall the platform looks lackluster.

I was tempted to vote BD but since there is no performance information there is no way to tell if it's a failure (what's a "fail" BTW?) or not.

Politicians for sure. Can't get shit done, argue about the same meaningless crap all the time. Even Nvidia pulling a Fermi deja vu with Kepler wouldn't be a bigger fail than our politicians.

How can our politicians ever be a fail?

Think about it, they get voted in by us, then they work tirelessly in our interests until they get voted out again. And on the way, they'll fight all the big corporations who are trying to screw us over in the name of big profits. So come on people where's the fail?!

Say what? There's this awful stench of bullshit round here. Where's it coming from?

The politicians and the people who vote for them are all fail. Fail all around. You smell that? That sir, is the smell of fail.

There was a news item recently, that's why:

Quote:
Though Sandy Bridge-E promises notable gains in the server world, it’s destined to be less influential on the desktop, if only because the number of folks willing to pay a steep premium for two additional cores and an otherwise-similar platform is small. Sandy Bridge spoiled us, so a high-end part just doesn't have the impact on enthusiasts that Bloomfield had back in 2008.

I think you missed the point . I see nothing comparing the SB to the BD and no mention of said BD at all . SO BD ='s FAIL !

I think YOU missed the point...BD is not even in the same price segment, and isn't meant to compete with SB-E. AMD has a separate product for the server space, and the BD we are all interested in has a much different socket and configuration.

From what I've read, which admittedly isn't much, SB-e is coming in at 10 - 20% faster than SB? If that's the case, than at over 100% increase in price for the lowest model vs. 2500k, SB-e is a failure of epic proportions.

Not as big of a failure as politicians though, which got my vote.

The improvements of the X79 platform aren't going to be seen in games etc, they are going to be seen in multi-threaded apps! There is also the HUGE memory bandwidth improvements (and you can see how minimal the triple-channel memory was of an improvement). I also like how the Overclocking is done obviously. If I am not mistaken it has a lot of SATA ports (ie: UD5 has 12?) and there are more PCI-E lanes obviously. The price for motherboards are going to start lower than lga 1366 apparently. idk the price of the CPU however. But most importantly, we know stuff about lga 2011, and we know it is going to be released soon, and we know that it has significantly more horsepower for a few things.

The BD platform however... well, apparently it will try to compete with lga 1155, which has been out since like a year? LGA 1155 is awaiting Ivy Bridge, that might just put BD behind even then! The price point for SB is pretty cheap already, so it can't be much cheaper, and Intel can easily undercut AMD at this point, and when IB comes out, BD will be in worlds of trouble. This BD platform has been speculated about since who knows when, and AMD is keeping their mouths shut. For what we know right now, BD is definitively not better than SB-E IMO.

I think comparison between BD and SB-E is a fail comparison. Compare BD to LGA1155 SB instead. Platform costs between the two are identical, the chips themselves will be priced to be competitive with LGA1155 Core processors.
