My £500 Build

Hello all,

Just building up a £500 spec computer. I'm designing it for gaming & multi-tasking. Here are the current items in the basket

Core i5 2500 3.3GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Retail B...

G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory K...

Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3-B3 Socket 1155 7.1 Channel Aud...

Coolermaster Centurion 5 II SPECIAL EDITION with R...

All I need to include is a graphics card. My overall budget is £500 and the total of the above items come to £374. (I already have a disc drive and hard-drive).

Could anyone recommend any changes and a new graphics card?

Cheers

Have you got a cpu cooler?
As far as graphics card goes im thinking for £125 is the 6850. Decent card, its not that hot so the fans dont spin very loud and its low power (requires only one 6pin pci ex).

EDIT: a few places where doing 6870 for that price dont know if you will find one now tho.

Take off the case. Good case, getting a cheaper case will increase your budget for a much better video card.

That is a power supply and case combo deal. If the case is taken away a power supply has to be found. I think the system as it is will be good for the money. I couldnt find a cheaper similar psu and case.

either get the 2400 if you dont OC or get the 2500K if you do!the regular 2500 is pointless

8 gigs of memory doubt you need it and ripjaws are pricey if you dont OC get some cheap generic 4gig 1600MHZ sticks

mobo is good

and of course as any new system builder you spent HUGE amount of cash on a case that performs same as cases half the price

Like Kieran said, the Case is a combo deal. It'll be hard to find a case and PSU for much cheaper.

I have the artic freezer pro as a CPU cooler although I might need another one as I plan to use the machine i'm currently using as just a programming computer.

Would I be better pushing the budget slightly to get a Nvidia 560Ti?

Well the 560ti is slightly faster than the 6870 but the 560ti is close in price to a 6950.
BTW The G.Skill ram is not pricey £40 is cheap for such reliable sticks. Hey i didn't need 8gb of ram either but its cheap so might as well.

Fair play, considering its a combo deal it makes sense. I was thinking the OP could keep his current case to save cost.

I agree value for money the 6870 is the best deal, they're only £140. GTX 560ti would be about £40 more atleast for only a small performance boost. 6850 are like £115, they're also worth looking at too
