SandForce BSOD Firmware Bug: Fix Finally Available

Finally a fix for the BSOD/disconnect bug that has been plaguing users for months is available for SF-2200 based SSDs. OCZ uses these, has been testing this new firmware for several weeks and now believes that it's fit for release. The new firmware is at version 2.15 for OCZ drives and 3.3.2 for drives that SandForce's standard numbering system. As with any firmware update, it should be used cautiously, all data backed up and perhaps used on a non-mission critical Windows install for a while, for confidence. Note that there may be more unresolved issues and new ones introduced.

OCZ made this official statement:
Quote:
OCZ is pleased to announce that the cause of a BSOD issue experienced by some SF-2000-based drive owners has been identified by OCZ and SandForce. A new firmware update which directly addresses this BSOD occurrence related to SF-2000 based SSDs is available here. All newly manufactured OCZ SF-2000 based SSDs will feature the new 2.15 firmware revision (which is based on SandForce firmware version 3.3.2.) We highly recommend that any customers that have experienced the BSOD issue update their firmware to 2.15.

We sincerely appreciate the support from our customers, and if any customers have any questions or require additional support please do not hesitate to contact a customer service representative and we will be happy to address any questions or concerns.

Good news hopefully. With a recent build, Raid 0 was failing due to one drive disconnecting. Hopefully this works.

TPU for news that matters..

One has to wonder if drives using the latest SandForce controller will go back up in price.

Excellent choice! I'm running an m4 as well, and it's been rock-solid since day 1. I'll take reliability over raw speed anytime.

This "fix" doesn't fix shit. It broke my drives, now instead of a occasional issue my system locks up every few hours or minutes when anything involving small files comes up.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you have a good case for RMAing it.

I'm trying to work with their forums but so far I have been told its not the drives, its my controller card, or its something else. Despite them already locking 40+ pages of complaints from users and numerous threads springing up with the same issues.

I guess if nothing else I will be ordering some better drives and try to clone across and return these POS drives.

That's crap customer service. This is an area that really gets my goat.

Sounds like a good reason never to buy their products again, doesn't it?

well to be fair, i had issues very similar to the reported ones with my SSD - yet i have a model thats not affected by this problem.

turns out my OC was slightly unstable (to the point nothing ever crashed) and my SSD really, really didnt like it.

Yeah, it's funny how you can see the oddest of instabilites like this.

Take my PC for example. It's been overclocked to 4.11GHz since soon after I put it together and it's solid as a rock - for 99.99999% of the time. Just very occasionally, it will bsod. And when it does, pressing reset doesn't always help, as it sort of half boots and gets stuck. I may have to press that button another couple of times, or press the mains switch on the PSU to clear it. However, this is so rare that it's not worth troubleshooting and it's anyway gonna soon be upgraded to SB/SB-E.

i had everything set with mine at 3.6GHz (turbo clocks, but on all cores) and a slight OC on the northbridge/mem controller - and i'd lock up from sleep mode maybe once a month, and the odd BSOD, that when googled hinted at the SSD (never BSOD'd before putting SSD in)

back to 3.2/stock NB to test, problem free for weeks. too lazy to re-OC again for now, as its been damned hot lately.
