Windows Vista SP 1 in the works

While most of us do not own or run Vista, Microsoft is already working on the first Service Pack for the new OS. It includes upgrades like the "Powershell" which is to replace the good old Windows "Shell". The Service Pack will be released in the second half of 2007. Anyone worried about Vista and stability, may take this as a good reason to wait before upgrading to the new OS.

There were alot of promises to Vista, and about 70% were thrown by the wayside to make it out in a "reasonable" time.

I still feel that we would have been better off waiting another 6 months and releasing it complete.

I don't really take it to mean Vista will be flawed. They no doubt have special groups already working on their next OS. It's just an update, in my opinion. Its the way things work, you don't have all your people working on one thing. The Vista SP1 people probably all sit around thinking, "What can we fix? How can we make this better?"

The first release of something as integral as an OS, in my opinion, is just the world's largest Beta test. There isn't anyway you can test all possible work environments in lab, so you do the best you can, release it, and see what happens. Then try to fix it.

Vista won't make it onto my main system as my main OS for at least a year. I am perfectly happy with XP and Vista's software compatibility isn't there yet.

Probably & a GOOD point in & of itself... more native drivers included, as well as 3rd party contributed ones (.inf files stuff etc.) so your equipment can run period etc.

You guys can complain all you want about vista... the fact is, it's much more difficult to program an operating system which is actually used. Linux and Mac OS can release multiple versions quicker because like .00001% of all of the software made works on those OSs. MS is under a lot of pressure for compatibility. If you guys don't like it, go buy a mac.

Bravo well said man.

I own a mac and several PC's running XP. OSX was built and designed around specific hardware made by Apple. Whereas Windows is built to be compatible with hundreds of thousands different configurations around the world. I'm more impressed with what a company like MS has to pull off to make their product work.

Also speculation this is an attempt to get businesses to adopt Vista quicker. Many firms already have a policy of waiting till SP1 before adopting a new OS. But even if they dont, it may give the impression that things have been ironed out.

Actually most "normal" software should work fine with Vista provided it will not requirer to access the core windows kernel. However, that is being said, most overclocking and monitoring software might not working in Vista.

Should work fine and does work fine are two very different things. A lot of software does work just fine, but there is still a lot that doesn't.
