How much would you pay for a Factory sealed SNES game?

A friend of mine sent me a ebay link to a old SNES game> Zelda A Link To the Past - BRAND NEW - FACTORY SEALED - SUPER NINTENDO and i thought yea cool ive got this game as well in its original box bla bla bla until i saw the price $600 Thats gotta be a record or something? Ive never seen one go for that much. I agree its super rare to find one in original factory sealed condition but $600?

What do you guys think?

I've done searches before. Regularly, there are some old, sealed goods for sale at very high prices, at both retailers and at auction.
I wonder how often any of it sells?

What would I actually pay for this game? You couldn't see me paying anything more than $10, given it's on emulators and one heck of a confusing game.

I sold the Blood Plasma Pak, sealed in the box for $70. The box itself was damaged, which I told the guy that was buying it. He still tried to negotiate once he got it, stating damage.

A lot. Most Zelda games do go high if sealed.

It depends. If you were a collector of mint, rare retro gaming software/hardware and NEEDED that game for your collection, you would pay anything you could afford.

Something that's worthless to one person, is priceless to another.

it's worth $250 NIB. Star Fox: Super Weekend and Donkey Kong Country: Competition are the most valuable titles on the Super Nintendo.

I like collecting, but it's to have and play them. Since I already have a copy, not really interested. Now if it was a gold cart... that be another thing, but there were no gold collectible LttP if I remember correctly.

Though, I haven't sought out any console carts in a long time as I don't have many working systems any more. Still like to pick up older PC games that I don't already have from bargin bins.

one more thing. it's impossible to have a complete in box Nintendo or Super Nintendo collection because Nintendo used to package their games in cardboard boxes that fall apart until the Gamecube, so a collector would buy this and keep it sealed as a showpiece.

I'd buy a Wii, buy a Classic Controller, and buy it on virtual console for 8 bucks. The experience is exactly the same without all the hassles of cartridges/obsolete hardware.


If you're just going for collectors' value, A Link to the Past in factory sealed condition can only go up in value so long as it stays in that condition. But, if you're going to lay down that kind of cash for it, it better be authentic/authenticated. The Chinese love to make counterfeit knock-offs of that kind of stuff.

Its not about what you would pay its about the going rate. Its an expensive game brand new and that's how it is. I would never buy a neo geo aes at £200 but that's the going rate for one.

Saying there is emulation is stupid because that doesn't matter to a collector.

There is no going rate, as my earlier post indicated prices are anywhere from $300-999. That said, the question did not ask for a going rate or if the price was reasonable (as indicated in the post, but not the thread title). I stick by my answer. $10, because there are other was to enjoy a game than sitting it on a shelf and marvelling at 80's cardboard manufacturing techniques. I want to play my games. I am not concerned about collectors who want to enjoy the aesthetics of a game, rather than playing the game itself.

Just because you personally dont find value in collecting a game doesn't have any bearing, collectors are the type of person to buy a sealed retro game. Emulation is fine because no one can afford multiple arcade cabinets and finding or purchasing rare games is expensive but the fact emulation exists has ZERO bearing on the price of a second hand game otherwise if it did have an effect people would simply give away retro games because no one would pay for them. Pirate games are free but i dont go around pirating every game under the sun and retailers dont give games away for free because people pirate games.

Me personally if im buying Zelda Link to the Past on SNES i just buy the cartridge, boxed SNES games at least here in the UK are far too expensive for just a box. Theres a copy on ebay sealed for £350 (rounded up). The game came out in 1991/92.

It could still be a used NES that been clean out & reseal , i wouldn't trust that

As for buying one i would said no but only because i already got like 5-6 of them & many parts like game controllers , joystick , guns etc...
Also have a bit over 330 cartridge games , one NES is still in use in my basement with an old 24" CRT TV we played from time to time when we get bored...

lol the op is talking about Zelda A Link To the Past for SNES but i do get your point about resealed stuff. I see that sort of stuff a lot on ebay.
