You can uninstall the old CAP before installing the new one. The new CAP's have all the stuff the old CAP's have.
There is a new CAP out for Deus Ex. Don't bother, it makes things very bad. |

I'm in the game right now and using the Steam overlay to check these forums for new CAPs/Drivers and I see your post. Can you describe in detail how the new CAP messes things up? I try to stay up to date with the Beta community as much as possible, but for this game, I'll need to know if I have to enact a CAP embargo for my hard drive. P.S. Lol, I just noticed they misspelt the game on the official page. Having AMD plastered all over this game is a straight up coup for AMD over nVidias usual brand domination of game intro movies. Then you go to their official site and see them calling it "Human Resolution"...

1) Does the CAP make the game performance better? 2) What was the cause of the Steam overlay flicker, and how did you resolve it? I'll update right now if it makes the game better. |

2) You would have to ask the AMD driver team or Valve on that. It's not resolved for me yet, but it doesn't bother me as I don't need the overlay when playing this game. From what I can tell the overlay is not getting synced properly with CrossFire causing the flicker. If they game plays fine for you now with zero issues there's no real reason to get the new CAP. Use what works.

2) Ahh I see. The phrasing of your post made it seem like the performance issue caused by the CAP was the overlay flicker, and that you resolved it somehow, even if its source wasn't the CAP alone. My mistake. A bit of context from my viewpoint is that the Steam overlay usage in DXHR has been surprisingly well integrated, even to the point of how the game operates. For example, I've personally noticed that when DXHR is loading a level, it still acknowledges Shift-Tab input to pull up the overlay, whereas a lot of games will either ignore or outright disable overlay activating input when loading a level, unintendingly defeating the purpose of it (ex. Friend msged me while loading? Oh, I can't reply until the game says so?). Also, once in the overlay, when the game is finished loading the level, it waits for you to exit it and return to the game before rendering the level, thereby not having invasive music or visuals loading into your VOIP convo or your watching a youtube video. It is because of this I'm more interested than average of any overlay issues in DXHR, since they've made so many appreciated strides in integrating it with the game. |

Dark2099, CAP 11.8 #3 is out, its on the official AMD site, and I can personally confirm for those who care that it solves the massive Steam overlay flickering Crossfire problem 11.8 #2 had.
OP update and re-playthroughs of Deus Ex needed. ![]() UPDATE: Seems I spoke a little too soon. The Steam overlay flicker is fixed in the context of the overlay itself, the friends list, the settings... basically anything that opens up a Steam type window. The Web Browser however is still flickering heavily. Doesn't matter if you're on Google (bright white) or the Steam store (muted shades of black similar to Steam native windows). I've tweated CatalystCreator -though he seems to be on a tweet haitus recently- and hopefully #4 will fix it for good. Last edited by FierceRed; Sep 5, 2011 at 03:06 AM. Reason: New Info |

Sure thing: Link
If that link still shows CAP #2, CTRL-F5 reminder, though I believe you would've tried that already. |

I kinda understand the whole CAP thing, but not completely certain on their necessity.
If I run Cat 11.8 w/single 5850, but don't play any games mentioned in the CAP, then there is no need to install the CAP as it provided no improvement over the driver itself, is that correct?

You are only using one GPU. You can live without CAPs. The only way a CAP would affect you as a single GPU user is to artificially limit options in the Catalyst driver in order for your game to play better. For example, if you're playing a game that doesn't have Anti-Aliasing settings, you force AA via the drivers and it completely fucks up the game, and the game has anywhere near the publicity to be on AMDs competitive radar versus nVidia, then a CAP will instruct the drivers to disable AA in shittygame.exe, even if you attempt to force them in the driver, in order for you to enjoy it angst free and not declare your AMD videocard a PITA and switch to the competition in an emotional outburst. Until you encounter such a situation, and a CAPs release notes point to it maybe containing a solution, you do not need to install them. |

So on Guru3D they have a CAP #5 out for the 11.8 drivers, but from what I see that it fixes, looks like just a combination of CAP 3 and 4, but does seem to have a newer build version. From a screenshot I saw of the main installation page, it is dated for yesterday (9/25), so perhaps AMD's site is a little slow on the update. Links for ya here.

These aren't drivers, these are game profiles for people using Crossfire to get better performance or fix issues they might be experiencing due to crossfire.
