What memory?
I have a file server that has a Asus a7n8x Deluxe motherboard. I have been running it for years with a 2500+ Barton and 2 gig of pc3200 Micron memory. All has been fine with it. The other day I popped in a 3200+ (known good chip) and after about ten minutes of running it blue screened (win xp pro) I rebooted it and checked temps and everything and let it crunch for a while again. After about an hour it locked up tight. So with testing the system over the weekend I found out the motherboard must not like this memory running at pc3200 speed. I lowered the fsb on the 3200 down to 166 mhz and system was stable again. I bumped the fsb back to 200 mhz and lowered the mem speed down to 166 mhz and the system is fine. My question is any of you the ran this board in the past at 200 mhz or faster memory speeds remember which brand of memory you used. I don't want to play the keep buying until I find the right memory for the system deal and wind up with 500 1gb pc3200 mem sticks. From what I understand this motherboard can be very picky as to what memory it uses. The memory I have works fine in my Ubuntu box at 200 / 400 mhz and alson in my other server which has a Abit NF7-S in it.

This isn't even the oldest system running In my arsenal. I have a Kt7a system I built way back the is still chugging along great.
![]() Thank-you for the quick reply It has the latest bios Yes I can change the timings and all in the bios. I just changed the memory speed from 200 mhz to 166 mhz (83 percent of fsb) with aggressive timings and all is good It has an Antec true power 430 watt ps. The ps is maybe at the most 2 yrs old. The hsf is seat properly and has Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Paste. I have has it crunching Bionic for the last 15 hrs straight and the temps are at a steady 40 degrees. Also am running a thermaltake volcano 11 xaser hsf From what I remember This board is very picky on the memory you run it it at 3200 speeds. Last edited by ThE_MaD_ShOt; Dec 13, 2011 at 02:06 AM. |
