Wow, really nice Crossfire scaling. Almost 2x the performance vs. a single card. Still the price is too much IMO.

Yup, it is nice to see the performance and it is only using beta driver.

This is looking like my next definitive setup when my 6950's(70's) retire.

oh yeah lol, forgot that the PCI-E controller is on the CPU now lol, despite having PCI-E 3.0 capable slots, it still need a gen3 controller

edit: oh wait, doesn't sandy bridge-e partially supports PCI-E 3.0? >_>

Yes, x79 are 3rd Gen. Given there is no socket 2011 IB cpu's outed by Intel it would be false advertising to say 'PCIe 3.0 ready' on x79 boards. They only need compliant devices, such as the 7970.

I would really love to get one these cards. However I think I will wait until the prices drop and it might be a little to power hungry for my 500w psu. Maybe the 7950 wont be so beefy.

Im wondering why they didnt bench the 7970CF against the 6970CF as the 7970 is supposed to replace the 6970 afterall.

Nice score anyway, Its good to see how well the 2 7970s scale together.

It's nice to see them do the review with Eyefinity cause using any new high-end gpu is overkill on single monitors now.

Wait, am I misreading the Heaven page?
The tests are at tri monitor resolution.

I mean, for years now I've been suggesting reviewers look at more enthusiast resolutions like 2560 but do they really think that Crossfire is only good for 5760?

Is everyone in this thread who seems impressed, tri monitor users themselves?

Hardly; there's a massive amount of games that are nowhere near 60fps cap at 1600p resolution. And they need Crossfire/SLI setups just to perform relatively comfortably.

From what I can tell, at non bespoke resolutions(a.k.a. 5760) the 7970(given the price) isn't worth buying if you already own Crossfire 6950/6970, or SLI 570/580. For those running single cards at 1080p or lower, it's also not worth an upgrade.

I really thought 7970 was going to be the new 6970. What gives with the price? It's like they're charging a premium for the new architecture, which of course cannot be utilized mostly because not many applications or wide spread applications can capitalize on it.

Massive amount of games? As compared to how many games are out there, I wouldn't say there are a massive amount of games. Plus, how many people do you know that game at 1600p? 99.5% of the world game at under 1200p (just a guess but I bet I'm close).
