New Build (2500k) :)

Just ordered some nice shiny new components to upgrade my girlfriends computer (which more importantly doubles up as my secondary gaming rig for when mates are around )

Old components:
Intel Core2Duo E7400 @ 3.6ghz
4gb DDR2 1066
Asus P5K-AM motherboard
Ati HD4890 gfx

NEW components :

Intel i7 2500K
Asus P8Z68-V LX Motherboard
8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz
Asus GTX 560Ti DirectCU II graphics card

Should be a sweet build when it arrives tomorrow...

She used to use her PC a lot and even game about 2 years ago so hopefully it will inspire her to get stuck into BF3

I think i'll put the old motherboard, processor and ram up on the sale section of this forum. I havent sold anything on here before but I guess i should start rather than collect old hardware that I end up giving away to friends or throwing out with the garbage!

What about the 4890? At the right price I could be interested as I'm about to build my two little nephews their first gaming PC and I'm pretty sure they are not going to be fussed about DX11

I'll probably mess around with some overclocking on it but will likely leave it on stock as one thing I learned from my 2600K is that they are so fast stock that an overclock isnt neccessary unless youre going for a record benchmark score

Yes its the 2500K.. intentionally bought as it was only a few quid more than a non-K version and will have a higher resale value should I need to sell it at some point

On stock its more than powerful enough to run anything and you'd only want to overclock it if you were going to run benchmarks or run some serious high end SLI/Crossfire setup

My old Q6600 was overclocked permanently at 3.6ghz but thats because it needed a little extra boost in games and specially video encoding and editing, this one should be fine as it is with the added bonus over being able to overclock nicely should it be needed down the road

Parts arrived today... build was super easy no hassles... spent the day installing programs, games and testing it out...Great build that is indistinguishable from my main i7 2600K rig in terms of power

Runs BF3 on Ultra with 4X AA and achieves 50-70 FPS (1680x1050px).
Will do some benches on it once my GF is finished playing... not too bothered abpout the scores to be honest as so far its playing anything i throw at it with ease

I ordered the same card last night after commenting in your thread. Arrived this morning and in comparison to my previous HD 5770 it's a friggin beast(I'm also at 1680x1050). Runs so cool as well as really quiet.

Congrats on the build. Just putting my new 2500K system together and have it clocked at 4.6GHz.

Haven't tried any games on it yet, but it's only a matter of time.
