1.65v memory volts still ok for 1155?
I know Intel recommends 1.5, currently my G Skill Ripjaws require 1.6 to run at their XMP settings of 1600/7.8.7.24.
These scale really well with speed and timings and can run 1866 8.9.8.27 or 2133 9.10.9.34 though require 1.645v as opposed to 1.6v, just want to know if I am ok to run them at 1.645v 24/7 with the new memory controllers present on 2nd gen i5/i7 processors.

The memory will run fine @ 1.65, I am more worried about running the volts through the mem controller not the meory itself.

Thanks, sure I have seen others running 1.65 mem with SB with no issues, though my concerns came from intel stating you should only run 1.5 or less, but heck when do we listen to mfr's recommendations when overclocking?
Also why only 4ghz on your 2500k? seems a waste 4.4 shopuld be very easily achievable on low volts, and also curious what RAM you are running? not a set of corsair vengeance is it? cause I got an 8GB set (2x4GB) to replace my 4x2GB Ripjaws and they didn't overclock for toffee, not too m,ention I have raised an RMA for them so instead of waiting for the new kit have just gone back to my Ripjaws and will probably hold on to the Vengeance kit until prices go up which is being reported they will then sell them on, even now with 4 sticks of 2GB of the ripjaws they all clock to 2133 from 1600

I've been running mine at 1.65v from day 1 and have yet to have any memory issues.

It's been a year running 1.65v on one chip, and about 10 months on the other, at various speeds. Nothing to report, other than ram is boring on 1155. Clock your sticks up to 2133 MHz, please.

When I had only these 2x2GB HyperX ddr3-1600 1.65 sticks, I ran these @ 1.75V with no problems. Then I added 2x4GB Sniper ddr3-1333 sticks and now I'm running @ 1.55. I had no problems with 1.65V+ RAM with HyperX's.
My CPU is 1055T @ 3.6GHz (doesn't clock much more with 4 RAM sticks... ran @ 3.8GHz with 2x2GB, but I rather have 12GB RAM than 3.8GHz instead of 3.6GHz)

I'm running dual G.Skill Ripjaws-X (newer) 8GB kits (4*4GB @ 2133MHz 10-11-10-28/2T 1.65v w/ 1.2v VTT) and luckily I have had no issues with my 2600K or the RAM. One set is stamped Jun2011, rated 1.5v and has black PCB, and the other set is stamped Jan2012, rated 1.5-1.6v and has green PCB. In theory I *should* be good to 1.7v because 1.2v + 0.5v (the supposedly max allowed voltage difference) = 1.7v. However, these sticks seem content with their settings so if anything I may try to lover the volts a bit on both VTT and the RAM.

I was thinking about this the other day. I can understand frying the memory controller with too much voltage, but why is it dangerous to have more than a .5v gap between VTT (I thought it was cpu vcore, guess not) and vmem?
Secondly, what does VTT voltage help with anyway? Does it aid when pushing a higher FSB? This shouldn't matter on 1155, right? Does increasing VTT or NB voltage aid in achieving a higher multiplier? |
