USB boot for bios update
Can someone point me to a utility to make a usb stick bootable. I lost mine and can't find it.
I need a next>ok>finish solution. The HP one (once I got it to finally install) doesnt work.

That took me to google. I've already been through that and tried a few "solutions" that don't work.
http://www.bootdisk.com/pendrive.htm Too complicated. (plus I don't have a floppy and the floppy emulator I tried wouldn't run in 7 64bit) http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how...otable_usb_key Incomplete (this only creates a formated partition) http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...X-UNITY-I23839 Will not work under 7 If I had found a working solution on Google I wouldn't have asked here. I've already spent 2 hours dicking with this. I figured I'd just ask in case someone already jumped through the hoops and found a utility to do it.

Did the first step. It already doesn't work. Note the capacities and drive letters M:/N: The HP utility is about to format my raid-1 volume containing my 2 750gb drives. It thinks it's the usb stick. I can not select any other drives in the HP utility. My 512mb usb stick is U:.
Any other suggestions?

@Lazzer408,
No offense, but did you actually read the post I linked to? Specifically Step 5?

1. Download The Flash Bios From USB Package Below Bios From USB Package From Here DONE 2. Install HPUSBDiskStorageFormatTool.exe DONE 3. After You Install Run HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Icon Below UNDERSTOOD 4. When HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Starts Select The Drop Down Bar And Select Your USB Device DONE but it will not allow me to choose my usb stick. As shown in the pic I posted, It has the right device name but the wrong drive letters. I can not choose anything else. Step 5 could destroy two of my other partitions.

OK, you have a lot of drives. Are they all actual drives, or partitions?
Perhaps you need to unplug some of the drives in order for the utility to correctly identify your USB drive? I have used the method I linked to several times, and I never encountered the issue you are having.

I have alot of drives with alot of partitions. This is typically what I have to deal with on a daily basis. Things that should be easy (like flashing a bios) wind up being a nightmare.

I understand, but is that not what makes the PC hobby so much fun?
Anyway, I would try unplugging all except the boot drive.

@Arctucas I set them to offline and the HP utility is still not finding the USB drive. Things like this ruin the enjoyment for me. I don't mind jumping through a few hoops IF those jumps take me to the next step. All the jumping I've been doing for the last few hours isn't getting me anywhere. I have Microsoft to thank for clumping windows into one big lump of no.

Yes here you go:
http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/iso.html The latest dos iso is 6.22, grab that one. Or other versions if you want.

Right but I don't have an iso of an msdos boot cd. Even if I did I'd have to edit in the folder containing my bios image. That's not a big deal but making a dos bootable image/iso is and then transfering that to a bootable usb is another issue.

What linux distribution o.O am I supposed to use? nvm. It won't let me open DOS6.22_bootdisk.iso anyways. I can't even see the iso in the folder where I select the iso from. I see I can choose other non-linux distributions so I tried windows 7. I get this...

I suppose you have no other PC that you could use? Or maybe get a friend to do it for you?
EDIT: I know you set them offline, but you have not physically unplugged them, no? I know that when I go to reinstall Windows, I need to unplug my external drive so that Windows will install on C:\. It may not work, but you never know...

Are you trying update your Motherboard BIOS?
I dunno how your board goes but I don't have to boot from the USB I just put the BIOS on it, Boot into my BIOS then use the Flash Utility in my BIOS it sees it and that's it. Surely MSI has something similar?

It's an older Gigabyte 945 board and yes I'm trying to update the bios.
I managed to "burn" the dos iso with UltraISO to the usb stick and that worked great. The USB stick boots fine now in the Gigabyte board. UltraISO is what I use for "burning" Windows iso to usb. Now that Drone pointed me to the DOS ISOs, I was able to do this the same way. It works. Thanks Drone and everyone.
