CES 2012: Intel fakes Ivy Bridge DX11 GPU Demo at conference

A new "wooden screw" moment. This time Intel.

http://semiaccurate.com/2012/01/09/i...-stage-at-ces/

VLC player control panel can be seen at the start of the F1 demo, at the end the guy "admits" the "live demo" is run from "backstage".

Another reason Intel doesn't belong on the top 10 list of most trusted companies, congratz AMD.

This just shows how badly Intel wants the graphics pie that AMD is feasting on at the moment. But they can't get past the fact that AMD is simply superior and that it already has a fully functional and very powerful Fusion platform which frankly totally kicks ass. Intel has a very long way to go and i don't think they'll ever catch AMD in this segment.

This is a great bit of journalism. Charlie D sure knows how to catch out liars.

You'd think that a company with the vast resources that Intel has would be able to straighten out their graphics division, wouldn't you?

I wouldn't as I haven't. CPU's is a different beast from general purpose processors.

What wonders me more is why haven't they just stuffed NVIDIA or AMD (cough cough) graphic card in it and run the game on that? No one would know and they wouldn't get cought this easily because of the VLC player interface... Unless the system in question was open there...

It's just a basic graphics chip on the same die as the CPU. AMD can do it, so it shouldn't be too hard for Intel to do it too (make a better one, that is, we already have an igp care of SB, of course)

I fail to see how playing a video would be the same as running the demo 'from the backstage'. Didn't Intel lie twice here? Unless they think pretending to play a game on one PC while *another* pc backstage plays the crowd a video is running a demo, that is.

It's only a partial lie though, while Demerjian claims everything was a lie.

Considering it was a "Full HD" video, that means Ivy Bridge's GPU can play HD video smoothly.

Yeah...that explains why Intel is about 82% of global CPU sales and AMD is about 10%. There's no doubt that the Fusion stuff is good, but it really isn't a very big market segment.

We're making a mountain out of a molehill here guys. Just because Intel cheated a little doesn't mean they can't do this, that, or the other--they just didn't have it ready by the show date. It's really not that big of a deal.

VLC can stream video, so it could in fact have been played in backstage on an Intel Ivy Bridge.

CPU sales mean d**k if you suck at GPU. And Intel just doesn't seem to have much clue about it.

Sure, and GPU sales mean d**k too, if you have to use the competitions CPU to properly use the GPU. Lets face it, fusion or not, AMD cpus currently suck.

Yes, what really matters is the performance on launch day, so as usual it's time to wait and see. However, one can't blame a journo for getting pissed off when he sees a company blatantly lie in their demos. And we should be, too.

Whenever any company pulls stunts like this, they should get called out on it.

I have a question. Of all the people here that are planning on buying Ivy, how many plan on using the IGP? I don't, and I wouldn't even care if it wasn't included in the package.

Referring to anything that comes out of Semiaccurate as journalism is a stretch at best. Charlie is famous for his pro-AMD anti-everyone else rants. He's just a very opinionated blogger.

They were presenting Ivy Bridge for notebooks. Integrated graphics might matter some.

Yeah, I guess. Speaking from a strictly selfish standpoint, I wouldn't buy a notebook without discreet graphics either though.

I probably wouldn't either, but it looks like noone is making a multitouch convertible unit powered by at least an APU.

It's a shame that their big reveal didn't work out for them. You just know it was supposed to be revealed that a full-screen 1080p video was being streamed simultaneously while those smooth game demos were being played. Unfortunately, layering issues cropped up and showed the player controls on top. I'm sure it'll be an early driver fix.
