ASUS Rolls Out the Eee PC R051BX AMD-powered Netbook

Without making much noise ASUS has made available, in Germany at least, a new, Fusion-flavored (or should we say heterogeneous-heavy?) Eee PC, the 10.1-inch R051BX. Available in black (but coming soon in white), this netbook weights 1.17 kg, and has an LED-backlit (1024 x 600) display, an AMD C-50 (dual x86 cores @ 1.0 GHz, Radeon HD 6250 graphics) APU, 1 GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, and a 2,200 mAh battery.

The Eee PC R051BX has Windows 7 Starter pre-installed and costs 259 Euro.

What i hate the most is the way how ASUS is naming the netbooks. The numbering scheme is just ridiculous and i never have any idea what i'm looking at by just looking at the names.

I'm not a fan of that resolution, otherwise pretty decent. I don't even mind Win7 Starter on those machines actually.

Why 1024x600? The Acer models are 1280x720.

hense the news post starting off with "Without making much noise..." Asus just wanted to slip into the market anyway instead of making a big song and dance about it. Had they put a E-350 or 450 in it then that would be an entirely different story.

Ditto, in fact i'm typing this on mine. Just wish i could speed up the graphics. Otherwise a nice nimble netbook (I recommend a ssd!).

the new line of HP DM1 with the E-450 APUs are ludicrously cheap these days. its slightly bigger then 10.1" but you get a bigger screen and you can a fair few games on it.

time for a trade in?

TBH i'm happy with the 522, it does everything I need, just not everything I want It plays Bastion fine, I just wish I could play Borderlands on it. But i've built a new (old) PC to do that.

well Like i said before - Its because I have a total beast in a box at home that i tolerate a 'lower performing' netbook/ultraportable. I used to have a an old 14.1" laptop that weighed as much as some of dell's 15" Inspirons. It was great for quite a few games as it had a fairly low-midrange dedicated graphics card. but as you get older and more mature, you tend to want something different obviously the same time can be said about marrages and relationships.

I could be on the road cycling for hours and not really break my shoulders or back doing it because I dont have an extra 2-3kg of weight to lug around with the other stuff but yet i got full internet access when i stop off at a pub for some grub and a pint
