Asus Maximus IV Extreme or IV Gene Z?

So, I'm building a new PC and I'm going OC. I've bought everything else but I left the motherboard last because I don't know what to choose. After doing some research I found out that these two are good for OC and I can put some decent cooling on them

I have an i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz CPU a N580GTX 1GB GPU and a 1000W PSU

What are the main differences between them, and which one you think is better?
What do you suggest me?

if u r only going to use one gpu, than take the IV Gene-Z it's cheaper and does the oc job as good as the IV Extreme.

and a MSI GeForce N580GTX got 1,5gb (1536mb) of memory not only 1gb, even the IV Gene-Z supports sli ^^

well if u take the IV Gene-Z/Gen3 u get PCI-Express 3.0 when u have a Ivy Bridge processor in it, plus the IV Gene-Z and Gen3 is both Micro-ATX that got 2xPCI-Express x16 slots and a PCI-Express x4 slot.

the IV Extreme is a ATX board with 4 PCI-Express x16 slots, 1xPCI-Express x1 and 1xPCI-Express x4 slot plus it got a Nvidia NF200 chip that that makes the PCI-Express speed like this: x16 or dual x8 or x8, x16, x16

but in basic if u can squish 2 GTX 580's on the IV Gene-Z with a fan in the side of ur case almost directly aimed at side of ur SLi setup that will help with temps aswell.

my own IV Gene-Z/Gen3 is shipped to RMA, i don't use SLi setup personally bcs i can't get any benefits in my games i play so i got a EVGA GTX570 1280mb and i use a dedicated Asus Xonar Essence STX for audio so the IV Gene-Z/Gen3 is perfect for me and i had the III Gene for my LGA1156 setup aswell but it's a powerfull small size factory form board that kicks ass

u can even ask DOM here at TPU about that he got one

So the Gene-Z has PCIe 3.0 but the Extreme doesn't?
As for the cooling, is there anything like this for any of these two?
Who be any difference on the OC?

Lol true. And between Maximus and Gene get the full on Maximus if your going to Sli later as Sli on the Gene just leads to heat issues on the graphics cards.

difference not that much, it's more cpu than board these days, about water cooling i think EK has a thing going bcs they sent l3p this:

so maybe they made a WC block for the Gene-Z but when or if it's gonna hit the marked i dunno.

the IV Gene-Z can also run sli no problem, and u can't actually oc the i7-2600 only auto-oc with Intel's Turbo clocks only with the "K" model u get Unlocked Multiplier and can OC higher than Intel's Turbo clocks.

Yes while it can run SLi, I dont recommend it. Unless you like high temps on your top card. Friend has one and his top GTX 460 was thermal limiting. Case had Yate Loon High's on the side panel feeding the SLi setup heaps of air. SO it was beacasue the Gene has too little of spacing between pci-e slot. Just my experience. YMMV

Well since you just bought the "2600" and not the "2600K" you really have no overclocking room. You might be able to squeeze a couple BLK's out of her (literally) but that is about it. Might as well try for a refund and get a "K" version otherwise you will be severely disappointed.

Trying to cancel the i7 2600 purchase, I thought that all the 2nd gen CPUs would be unlocked!
Thank you guys
As for the motherboard, I'll buy the Extreme, saving some money for the spare charges
Thank you guys!

well about that, i don't have that, even i had my audio card in it, blocking one fan of mine on my Gelid Icy Vision fan, my temps was the same as on my ECS P67H2-A and i got a Zalman 120mm fan in the side of my CoolerMaster CM690II Advanced, så maybe a lack of airflow aswell.

bcs my temps was fine, and when i get my IV Gene-Z/Gen3 back i will tell more.
