Poll: Did the 7970 and 7950 launch meet your expecations?
After the surprising 4xxx, the excellent 5xxx series (which destroyed the 285 at the time), and the great unlock ability and value for money of the 6xxx (mostly the 6950), I personally feel like the 7xxx launch was a let down compared to the previous launches.
I wanted to see what the community would think. Please post if you think yes or no, and why. |

According to that the 7950 is turning heads an it aint even out yet. I feel strongly that when they do become available that the 7950 is going to be the new 6950 due to the price difference between the 7970 and 7950. the 7950 stock is beating a gtx 580 for less and that is on bad drivers and on a pre order price. so for now AMD is going strong and the 3GB VRAM is just incredible. I love that as my old 460 was being choked with 1GB of VRAM on BF3... so AMD ftw! |

looks like the trend is that people feel the price hike was worth it... ^ so are you going to buy the card or wait for NV?

I'm going to wait for Kepler as it may change how well the 7970 and 7950 appear to be.
Even Charlie says "The short story is that Nvidia will win this round on just about every metric, some more than others".

usually Nvidia will win they will create some rape face card worth 600 - 700$ that i will NOT buy.
However I like to look at both sides and Im not a team female dog :P to either side lol So i will wait to see what Nvidia has to offer then I will buy the best price / performance ratio card, I see that card being the 7950 tho idk why... it usually is the XX50 cards as the price / performance winners... But if Nvidia doesnt beef up the VRAM then im done with them, the gtx460 is choked in BF3 (trust me i know) i had extreme everything, max aa ao everything to the fullest looked great but even on a 18.5 inch monitor 1GB on bf3 is demanding. |

Waiting for 6950's to go on sale. When that happens the 7900 series launch will have proved useful

I wanted to buy the 7950 but the pricing is way too high for me. And yes, BF3 owns my 570 on my 22" 1080P.
Upcoming NV card is said to have 2gb of ram. |

TBH I expected more in the performance front. But I still feel HD 7970 is the best AMD/ATI card in years. If NVIDIA can do better, then even better. I can wait a bit longer...

Considering I have no card right now I will probably buy a 7950 because I want to play BF3 in all its glory
I honestly was expecting more performance from both. They are still very good cards though. Maybe my expectations were to high? |

Regarding the poll, yes I'm disappointed. According to TPU's review the 7970 at my resolution, stock clocked is under 20% faster at 200+ $ more expensive. While I understand the overclockabilty potential and probably in certain games a bigger difference I expect a new gen card that will be 40% faster at the same price point as what I have now. Until one of these cards will hit the market, either AMD or NV, I'm not interested. |

@ Crap Daddy - yah but below 60fps and my FPS skills start dropping quickly... I have to run custom settings to keep above that line.
LOL @ tigger.

Nvidea is being beaten by a new card model, which has 6 months or more of extra development time. Anyone surprised?
The same goes for future AMD cards being beaten by the newer Nvidea cards. I think the leap in manufacturing, coupled with a more competently executed driver set (eventually), was exactly what was expected. It did not disappoint, but did not exceed expectations. Nvidea, despite the trash talk, is likely to do the same. I'm not going to rush out and purchase a card in a functional vacuum. My current 6950 is more than enough, and will likely remain that way into the late 8xxx and early 9xxx AMD (or 8xxx NVidea) generations. Wake me when there's actual competition.

Upgraded from Xfire 5870's to 1 7970. Was a great upgrade and I am glad I skipped the 6xxx series. Beats my old xfire setup in Frame Rate and is much more stable not having to rely on xfire drivers.

^ Yeah I built an ITX rig knowing full well i will never miss SLi or xfire again because of that issue.
Still - such expensive cards... I am hoping that they drop in price sooner rather than later, as I feel the 7950 is no longer a "midrange" class as it used to be. |

And no, you won't get 60fps locked on Ultra preset with a 7970 either... |

I dip into the high 40's when there is ton's of effects and mayhem, otherwise it is locked at 60fps. This is at 2500x1600. At lower resolutions I doubt it goes below 50fps with everything on ultra.

Good to know... I am so impatient for NV to release something so that these prices get to sane levels... I could take a weekend cruise to the bahamas for the price of a 7950.
I could drink myself stupid as well if we consider the price of the 7970. |

I love my 7970, it's been the best card I've ever owned so far. It blazes through anything I throw at it and then some. It was expensive though, and with the state of games and consoles holding back technology, do we really need cards like this? Well.. sometimes. I like upping the eye candy, using things like supersample AA and such. I'm leaning more towards "yes" I suppose. It definitely has met and exceeded my expectations (overclocking is awesome with this thing), but again the only real negative thing is the price. |
