GK104 priced at~$300?

http://www.guru3d.com/news/nvidia-gk...d-at-299-230-/
Quote:
More and more rumors surface regarding NVIDIA's pending GeForce graphics processor release under codename kepler.

The GK104 GPU will be priced at $299 (about 230 EUR) as sources now claim, the sources being various Nvidia AIB partners.

From what we can tell this is only a preliminary price so Nvidia could change it a slightly until the final GK104 parts are shipped depending on chip volume and yields.

GK104 indicates the mid-range product (expected to perorm at current high-end level). Last week a Chinese publication claimed that the upcoming GK104 core would feature a 256-bit wide memory bus, which would be connected to 2GB of video buffer. While the shader count and operating clocks were not provided, the Thermal Design Power (TDP) of GK1104 cards seems to be set at 225W, which is quite close to the GTX 570 (219W).

Nvidia’s Kepler GPUs will also be manufactured using TSMC's high-K metal gate (HKMG) 28nm fabrication process.

The release date of the Kepler graphics processors is not yet known, but an Nvidia official suggested during CES 2012 that the company’s first such parts would be launched in late Q2 or early Q3 2012. However with so many rumors and gossip, typically a launch is pending closer then we think.

The original source for this in the West was S/A (posted 23rd Jan)

There are various other posts out there trashing this rumour but CD had rebuked them in the forum posts at S/A.

NVIDIA Accused Of Using Marketing Shills

Apparently ChipHell has accused NVIDIA of using marketing shills in its forums and, according to the site owners, they had to ban all the accounts spreading the anti-AMD rhetoric. Hit the link for the complete run-down. Thanks to [H] forum member xoleras for the heads up.

Rough chinese translation. ALL of the posts related to kepler being 299$ from chiphell, and speculated performance, were from marketing shills (proven by the owners of the forum) and have been banned. Charlie from SA was bamboozled as well. Keep it classy Nvidia.

Regardless of NV's marketing shills, if there is any truth to the $299 price tag then NVIDIA is in big trouble. This shows the new cards are not going to perform as once thought.

I say BS.
If NVIDIA can come out with a powerhouse card for $300 then I'll buy it.
However, I strongly suspect the typical $400-600 depending on the model.
If NVIDIA can command 580 prices, then they will.

Smart. But classless. Is Nvidia that desparate that they need to do this? Then again, there's some folks on the forums who I swear work for AMD (CPU's mainly) the way they talk.

That's what they say. It seems to me that this is all they have right now. Where's their "high-end" card then?

So basicallly, they'll pobablly get around to it around the end of the year. In the meantime they have this card to crutch them along. Don't get me wrong, if it's around as good as a 7970/7950 at a greatly reduced cost, it's a win. I just hope they have other things coming out soon to go with it or they'll be bleeding money. There's much more to the video card market than users like TPU people.
