IGN says Call of Duty is Boring

IGN has officially said Call of Duty is boring. I never through they would say that since they compare every game to CoD.

Based on the article I completely agree with the characters in the campaign, and how there are so many of them we don't get the reflect on each as a person and such.

Call of Duty is Boring Article

The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare campaign was explosive, memorable, and remarkably fast-paced. Its online multiplayer achieved a refreshing newness typically reserved for Halo sequels. Modern Warfare transformed what we expected from first-person shooters, and in turn spawned one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of Call of Duty 4, a game whose foundation has remained largely unchanged in its four annual follow-ups and spinoffs. With rumors of Black Ops 2 swelling, Call of Duty's assaulting frequency is becoming difficult to stomach. The brand is a symptom of mutual complacency. Players systematically trade cash for another fix that does little to improve upon the last experience. Activision has become the industry equivalent of a crank dealer, and we've become junkies too strung out to do anything about our problem.

It's time for Call of Duty to change. Ignore that it will continue to make money hand over fist whether or not Activision actually decides to revitalize the slowing pulse. The series needs to step it up, expand its ambitions, and reinvigorate itself in exciting new ways, or it's going to run one of gaming's greatest into the ground. After all, this franchise changed the course of single- and multiplayer gaming. The only thing preventing Call of Duty from doing it again is itself, and this is what needs to change to make it happen.

Pretty much COD MW should just be an expansion pack sort of like how Blizzard does with WOW.

Deus Ex breathes new life in games even though the format hasnt changed considerably since the original DX was launched in 2000.

With Call of Duty Elite in place to give us more maps on a regular basis, there's no need to release a Modern Warfare 4 or a Black Ops 2 with recognizable multiplayer. If incremental improvements and new maps are the problem year over year, Elite and game updates are the solution. So dedicate future efforts to breaking new ground. Remind us why we fell in love in the first place -- it'll make us forget why we fell out of love in the process.

At least the first couple COD, and Halo games had a storyline and progressively harder maps with better weapons.

I don't see why Elite changes anything for COD, or why now that thats here all of a sudden they think it's a great idea to stop pushing out games. Nothing has changed from the last game, except you know exactly how much COD will cost you this year. With the last game and them pumping out map packs, they could have gone the same route and just never released a new COD, and just done packs. It just would have been done on a pay for the content model rather than a sub. But the point of Elite was to make people feel like they were getting a deal as their previous title had over $100 of DLC in a year, people who actually stepped back and realized that rather than throw their cash at Activision weren't so happy.

Rotating spawn and tiny maps are for from revolutionary. I bought COD4 when it came out, and sold it a few weeks later, wish others would have wised up a few games/years ago. Their call to finally stop buying COD games is just so late to the game, it's like screaming, "look everyone, the sky is blue, I just now noticed that!".

I didnt say Elite was a good thing. Im saying that instead of just releasing a new iteration each year just give it to us through that for like 15-30 bucks or something.

Im sorry but no. Have you ever played quake or counter strike or maybe battlefield 1942? These games have been out WAY before COD multiplayer and layed the foundation of FPS games. Hell COD's engine came from ID software which in turn came from quake engine.

I knew what you were saying. But I'm just saying, people have been paying a yearly sub to COD for a few years now, it's just now that the price rate is fixed. People have always said that the new games were just map and skin packs.

You mean for this grovelling creepy crawly dishonest review giving MW3 9/10, scoring the same as the truly ground breaking avant garde thrilling multi-player FPS experience that is BF3.

At least the people at IGN received enough in bribes from EA to actually rate BF3 as being on par with MW3. Over at 'Edge Magazine', a gaming publication well known for its low scores and harsh critique of any game which fails to innovate, entertain, and immerse, obvioulsy EA failed to adequately counter the bribes from Activision, thus in thier view BF3 with 8/10 the falls neatly behind MW3 with 9/10.

Now I dont care who you are or what your mental capacity is. There is no excuse for rating MW3 above a mediocre 7/10 which is all it deserves at best, but rating it above BF3 is simply dishonest and indeed corrupt. IGN are a totally discredited source of information for games reviews and they got plenty previous 'convictions' whereby the have given some blatantly lame piece of crap a rave review only for some lucrative advertising deal to transpire between them and the games publisher.

Day of Defeat/CS were the games that "changed the course of single and multiplayer gaming" IMO. Call of Duty just hopped on that bandwagon.

Both in terms of fun and what they did for the E-Sports and Gaming community. Watching Quake 3 matches was so damn fun back in the day. I miss fast-paced skill-based shooters. I am praying Epic Games goes back to making Unreal Tournament, and doesn't do another game they just dump off on another studio (looking at you UT3).

BF3 > CS:S

cod was b o r i n g, bought it, played for like 2 hours, went to back to css, then gave it to my cousin and now its collecting dust

I quite enjoyed MW1 but i enjoyed the custom maps and mods that were made and ran by the CoD Community more - this was of course before Activision became a money grabbing whore and stopped giving out SDK tools and spoon feeding the community map packs made up of re-skinned maps thinking that we wont be able to tell the difference.

Brecourt 2003/04 from CoD1/United Offensive is still Brecourt from 2003/04 and it doesnt matter if you re-skin it, remove all the bushes and destroyed buildings and put a damaged/scrapped truck in the middle of the map for cover, its still brecourt.

Even though their maps have changed you can still recognise CoD1/UO maps in some of their newer games even though they might have reskinned it and added extra areas/sections to part of the map but the general layout is still the same.

but yeah I agree - Activision definitely forgot IGN's paycheck.

you cant give a game 9/10 then rant about how boring the game is and how it needs to be changed.
