Looking at building a new rig
So after almost two years with out a desktop I think it's time to build another one. My problem I'm having right now is that I feel that I've been gone from it too long and don't really know what I should be looking at for parts. My biggest problem is budget, I have a max set at $700 though I'd rather not even spend that. I still have my hd's from my other rig which were used for under a year and a PSU that saw maybe 6 months of use which is a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750watt
My main goal is to build a small computer with enough power to handle a range of tasks from some relaxed gaming (doesn't need to run every game on high-settings) and some lite 3d design with AutoDesk Inventor or Solidworks. Any input would help. Edit: "Small Computer" - Micro-ATX / Micro-ITX

An AMD APU (A8-3870K) and Mobo along with a decent GPU will fit your budget and then some.
The Intel guys will suggest otherwise but either platform will be a good upgrade within your budget.

Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, L...
Any input on that? Edit: I feel like such a noob posting that but in my defense it is a budget system.

And with the size restrictions I would also put an AMD APU system as a front runner. If your gaming is mostly non-DX11 titles on medium, I would say pair it with a 6670 and using the CrossfireX with the APU to get good performance. If you do go Intel, I would say stick with a CPU around the 65W range like an i3-2120 as I expect your case to be rather small, so you want to avoid the need to large coolers or small coolers that make a shit load of noise. Now if you are really trying to squeeze a relatively large amount of graphical power in a small space, I don't think a 6670 has a low profile version, so you may want to go with one of the other GPU's you can use CrossfireX with on an AMD APU. If you need more CPU horsepower, then go with Intel. |

Noise is not an issue really in my mind. Games well I have Skyrim for my xbox but I think i'm going to rebuy it for pc and if Diablo 3 ever comes out this year i'll probably buy that.

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 S... Fractal Design Arc Mini Black High Performance PC ... SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR... These combos include a nice Fractal Design case Micro ATX boards and reuse your PSU, HDDs, and Win7 x64 as you indicated on your 1st post. Please double check the math (did it quick)... suprised these were only $0.01 apart Either combo will be a very good upgrade for your current system and leaves a little room for getting a better GPU or saving a couple of $$$

Forgot one item- a better CPU cooler is recommended as well
Here's a good performer at a good price ($29.99) COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatp... The self contained water coolers will also fit in the Fractal case if you want to spent the extra $$$ on one.

I gave you a link in my above post which I've edited. Also I though that mobo recommended to you had 2 DIMM slots, I was wrong, it has 4 DDR3 DIMM slots, my bad
![]() The only difference I see is the one I recommend is a full ATX mobo with more PCIe/PCI slots.

![]() A couple of comments: - The Source 210 is nice (I have one) but... - It's not small (std mid-tower) and quality is good but could be better - the 210 Elite adds on tool-less bays and an extra 140 mm fan - case is great to build in once will give you problems if you dig into often - Add this fan control (below) and pickup a 4 pack of cheap 120mm fans (Rosewill or Coolermaster $10-20 for 4 pack) NZXT Sentry Mesh Fan Controller w/ Five 30 watts C... I also bought this fan controller- can tie in all of the fans this case will fit and is nice and tidy. I can't make any Intel recommendations (AMD guy) so I'm glad you made your decision with info from both sides. Good luck with your build- post back with pics

That Fractal is all lower budget- if your squeezed for size and $$$ it will work but do a search and read a few reviews on it 1st so you know what you're getting.
Another Option: NZXT Vulcan (Micro ATX- portable w/handle) a little cheaper than the Fractal I recommended NZXT Crafted Series Vulcan Black Steel / Plastic G...

I want to order all this stuff but I'm still unsure on a case.
Edit: I really want a HTPC case that fits all that stuff.
