7970's constantly crashing
When is the next bloody driver for the 7XXX series coming out? I've been having crashes galore since installing my 2 7970's. Would a different profile fix these crashes?

Which kind of crashes do you have? CTDs or BSOD?
And in which instance do they occur? |

Both. When playing any game. Window or Full screen
EDIT: Playing media on my second screen seems to make it happen quicker.

What drivers are you using?
Is this a new Windows install? Did you uninstall your old drivers before installing the drivers for the 7970's? |

Now that's an headache to sort, is your system running fine with one card only?
I know that drivers are very immature but you shouldn't be having this kind of issues. If it does the same thing with a GPU only I'd recommend a driver sweep and clean reinstall. |

Why don't you try installing another driver like this one?

I changed several GPUs without doing a clean windows install and no problem has ever appeared so you are probably being plain unlucky. |

Aren't there newer non-WHQL drivers that are better for the 7xxx series?

Keep the OS on a single drive and install everything on a secondary, every time I format I have everything back up and running in something like 5 minutes. Only 3Ds Max + Vray Plugin and Photoshop need to be reinstalled because I need to fetch the key from the boxes.

I know it's from mid Jan but Hard OCP aren't very happy with the 7 series crossfire drivers. They say AMD has dropped the ball on the driver front again.

I have recent drivers crash on me as well when I had some video type media playing in the background while gaming. I noticed it when the video in the background switched from one to another, then all of the sudden the driver stopped responding, game crashed. When no videos are playing in the background I have no issues.

Imho you should have expected some initial issues as its e new gpu archetecture thats only just come out ,i too have been on the first day ship a few times with both nvidia and amd and would agree that usually on day 1 you have less issues with NV cards but they are not perfect either ,just saying it normally takes a few months/driver releases) to get em fully right from either team.
my 5870 didnt behave very well for a month or two, but neither did my 8800GT or my 3d prophet 2GTS(a dear card way back when) or any of em really, in fact even now i could prob make any system crash a game with a bit of effort(i mean just with wrong driver setting, morpho etc) ,just sayin

shouldn't be bashing the 7 series as like most people said it is a new GPU, and tbh with you the smartest move would of been wait for keplar then drop 400+ dollars on a GPU. Drivers are drivers always gonna be a problem with em. Good luck!

Just goes to show, we all have different experiences. But I never buy hardware that's just been released.

Check to see if you still have hardware ghosts (driver sweeper should have eliminated them) and if you do uninstall the software for the ghosted hardware and clean your registry..
Open CMD as Administrator Type or Copy Pasta SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 Then start Device Manager by typing: devmgmt.msc Then in "View" click "Show Hidden Devices" Click on the device tab and remove the "Ghosted" Hardware....It will be the gray translucent device If the ghosted hardware is your old Nvidia hardware be sure to erase the software and if the ghosted hardware is your old AMD GFX profile simply remove the ghost without removing the software.... It's worth a shot anyways. |
