HighPoint Launches the affordable, 8-Port SAS 6 Gb/s Host Adapter

HighPoint Technologies, Inc., the industry's price-leader for SATA and SAS HBA and storage solutions, has launched a new, low-cost, SAS 6 Gb/s HBA product line, the Rocket 2700 HBA series.

Rocket 2700 HBA's utilize a PCI-Express 2.0 host interface, and are available with either two internal or external mini-SAS ports. HighPoint's Rocket 2700 Series is set to become the most affordable, professional storage SAS/SATA 6 Gb/s controllers on the marketplace, and are ideal for cost-effective, entry-level SMB applications.

Introducing the Rocket 2700 Series - Rocket2720SGL and Rocket2722

Today's small-to-medium businesses, more than ever before, need low-cost, high-density storage. As a result, system-level storage redundancy has become an attractive alternative to complex, high-dollar Host-RAID based solutions. Why pay for what isn't needed?

The Rocket 2700 Series HBA's were designed with budget conscious SMB's and solutions providers in mind. HighPoint trims away the fat and delivers exactly what the SMB customer requires - robust, easily integrated SAS 6 Gb/s port-connectivity at an unbeatable price. Two models are available at launch, and each provide industry standard mini-SAS ports for ease of integration. The Rocket2720SGL provides two Internal Mini-SAS ports (SFF-8087) for conventional storage configurations, while the Rocket 2722 features two external mini-SAS ports (SFF-8088), ideal for server towers that require external storage expansion. Each Rocket2700 HBA supports up to 8 SAS/SATA hard drives and SSD’s, and are powered by a PCI-Express 2.0 x8 host interface.

Seamless Integration with Existing Storage Infrastructure

Rocket2700 HBA's are fully backwards compatible with SAS/SATA 3 Gb/s devices, PCI-Express 1.0 motherboards, and can be easily integrated into existing PC-based server and workstation environments. The Simplified BIOS menu and driver packages allow administrators to quickly and easily install Rocket 2700 into any PC hardware platforms. Driver support is readily available for all current Microsoft operating systems, as well as major Linux distributions.

Availability

The Rocket 2720SGL and Rocket 2722 will become available late-February to early March, from HighPoint's
world-wide network of Distribution and Reseller channels.

I've always wondered how do you connect the SAS drives like Seagate's Cheetah to your motherboard Now I know you need an external card

If you need SAS support or connectivity for a large number of SAS/SATA drives (128 is a number I've seen with other Highpoint products). Then this card would do something for you
