now all we need is this with a 30" diagonal and decent font scaling in windows. and a BIG FAT GREASY display link, i don't even want to know how much bandwidth would this require @ 60hz, nvm 120.

I highly doubt that anyone here could differentiate this 1080p screen with a 720p (or a bit lower) screen it's same size. Regardless of the distance you are away from it. In my opinion putting resolutions this high in a device this small is just a marketing ploy.

It's completely logical that we have sat at 1920x1080 for desktop displays for the better part of half a century then, right? Where the **** is my affordable 2560x1600 monitor???

And I thought my Rezound had a high ppi @342 (720p@4.3" in landscape). This is truly remarkable tbh.

Even up close I really struggle to distinguish individual pixels on my Galaxy Nexus' 720p display (315 ppi - an iPhone 4 is about 325 iirc), so I'm not sure that we'll see much difference with this even higher res display.

That said, I am all for it and hope Samsung is successful with it. Hopefully this will provide the impetus for monitors to make another leap forward in resolution. My current display is still languishing at ~105ppi.

Why not usable? texting and browsing will just be rendered in a higher DPI, why is no one reading the previous comments, or using their brains for that matter? We really have been stuck in the dark ages when it comes to screen resolution for years now.

Good. But I don't know what your problem with 27" 1080p screens is. I would love to have one. Not everybody has perfect eyesight and a 27" would be perfect for me as I am forced to sit a bit too close to my 24" screen because the text is a bit small. Pixel density is not everything, you know... Sometimes a higher pixel density can make things worse as it makes text so small it's almost impossible to read. I'm sure that if this is true, it will be a killer phone though as Android seems to scale better with higher resolutions than Windows does...

High pixel density looks good. Whaddayawlcomplaininabout?

That icon under finger is about half an inch. To display "Wednesday" clearly you need 9x characters at approx 32pixels per character = 288 pixels or 576ppi.

I'm OK with this, and I cant understand anyone complaining and saying "ooh you cant read it". B0ll0cks. Can you read "Wednesday" or not?

Exactly.

You can see the same thing with LCD TVs nowadays, with so many of them having a so-called 'HD Ready' resolution of a mere 1366x768 pixels, when monitors have been doing 1080p and more for years and for less money! Seriously, the tuner and other bits really don't cost very much to put in, so they're just ripping off the customer. Again.

Didn't know it was auto DPI , like you said...

Now i know that windows is doing a shitty job at it , thx!

My dad got an 21.5" monitor at 1920x1080 (yes Win7 in case you are wondering) & i find that to small for that type of monitor (had to adjust the DPI manually) anyways i thing it should be 1680x1050/1600x900 max. for an 20-22" monitor & the 1920x1080 should be left out to only 23"-27" size

Using a bigger DPI makes letters looks odd , looks like a lower resolution quality so what is the point of using higher DPI if it going to look like a crappy lower resolution?

Back in 2000 or 2001 don't remember exactly when i was shopping for an 17" CRT all the 17" monitors had a 1280x1024 as max resolution but one was able to do 1600x1200 so i pick out this one , after that i understood why most of them didn't get higher than 1280x1024 , at 1600x1200 on 17" was way to small for desktop use
So i kept it at 1280x1024 for everything & used the 1600x1200 for games only (only a few)

BTW: Yes! my eyes are find no need glasses yet (last time had them check 3 months ago) i just don't like it when it is to small or to big (DPI) so if need be ill adjust manually the DPI but as for my 24" monitor i don't feel like i need to it's "perfect" the way it is
