Valve Corporation Worth $3 Billion

Video games developer, publisher, and distributor, Valve Corporation is valued at US $3 billion. A privately-held company, Valve doesn't disclose its finances to the public. Forbes estimated its worth by consulting video game industry insiders, equity analysts, investment bankers, and technology analysts. Valve's co-founder and managing director, Gabe Newell, who owns over 50% of the company, has a net worth of $1.5 billion, making him the newest billionaire from the video games industry. He ranks 854th out of 1,226 global billionaires in Forbes' list. Apart from having largely successful game franchises such as Half Life, Counter Strike, Left4Dead, and Portal, Valve has arguably the most popular video games digital distribution platform, Steam. Steam distributes more than 1,800 titles, from 50 different publishers.

You'd think with all that money he could afford surgery to remove that unsightly valve handle from his eye.

I know I have sent plenty of money their way and I have no qualms about doing it. 139 games and counting. They are my preferred method of getting games, they have great sales and for the prices are usually better than retail.

I'm glad they are turning a good profit and should be a GREAT example to the rest of the industry that PC gaming is alive, well and profitable.

The reason for their success is the fact it's a private company. As soon as you get clueless shareholders pressing on you, everything turns into brown pile of poo. Plus no one can make acquisition of your company. And since Valve is now also a distributor and publisher, they don't need any middle man leeches. What they did was risky but it paid off well for them.

“However, the Intel CPU dispatcher does not only check which instruction set is supported by the CPU, it also checks the vendor ID string. If the vendor string is "GenuineIntel" then it uses the optimal code path. If the CPU is not from Intel then, in most cases, it will run the slowest possible version of the code, even if the CPU is fully compatible with a better version. ”

On second thought, only the most prized of clients at the biggest brokerage houses likely would get any*. I'm definitely NOT one of those. Sigh.

3 billion is a "conservative estimate" according to Forbes. Their actual worth is still unknown. Plus EA and Activision are publically traded companies, thousands of people own them. Valve, with no public constraints could arguably be the larger company as in they can do what they want, when they want.

Valve has very much single-handedly defined online PC-gaming purchasing, and successful DRM practices that benefit both the end user, and the companies that use the STEAM service. I don't, and won't buy games from anywhere else, if I can help it.

Considering they could do whatever they want, really, they have made a tonne of correct choices through the years, and that cannot be overstated.

Valve Corporate is horrible

I have tried to work with Valve and find them to be a truly horrible corporation. I actually purchased Civ V a 3rd time from them (yes 3 since I like the game) due to their horrible Steam login name procedures. If you request a replacement password, they assert they have sent you codes - that they don't (they do have the email since they sent me other stuff)to that email address. When frustrated they provide no means to speak with a person. They actually billed me for my 3rd purchase of the same game from them and didn't provide the game or an email to with a link to get it. I again went to their customer service, my login didn't work on the new account I had created again. Of course I tested that same login/password combination and it still works great for the sales side of their house. They have a "F" from the Better Business Bureau for a reason. They treat their customers like the enemy. They should be ashamed.

yes

when you rip people off and provide horrible service, there are consequences. I've lead and been around customer service functions for some time. They are without a doubt the worst there I have had the misfortune of suffering. It's important people understand it. I am the person of last resort in my corporation on all things marketing - I've been cursed at, screamed at all sorts of things. In hundreds of interactions (save one), I have had the customer happy about what they received and thanking me afterwards. They don't get it.

Xbox = Xbox Live, PlayStation = PSN

PC = STEAM, seriously though they should include Steam in the next Windows Pack and completely combine/integrate it with games for windows. and add Steam "BIG PICTURE" in future gaming-capable HTPCs
