I'm Not sure as well I never had a laptop before. They are way out of my price range.

I'd look for one with a more updated gpu, such as the GTX 560m. This might be a good starting place. All 17" laptops with core i7 processors.

Ah my bad, I was going by the price listed on amazon xD. If that's all you can spend, then I'd go with that one.

Did a quick search on ebay for that model, all were more expensive, so I'd say yes, it is a good deal. You might find this review of interest http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...k.45917.0.html

Do you need more than 16 GB of ram? There is one on ebay that is cheaper (I missed it the first time through), but it is a slightly different model, the g73sw-xt1. Only supports 16 GB of ram, but has a BR player. Only problem is there is still 7 days of bidding left, so the price might go up in the future.

haha.... i dont need 32gb no. 16 is fine.. and so is the 8 that comes in it. probably wont upgrade it for a while but the option is there.

dont really need blueray but i suppose its a good addition. wish it had a 3d screen... that would make it better.

anyone know if the gtx460m is decent? i know its the low end of the gtx400m series.

more than decent.

For info on the GPU go here --> http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.33612.0.html

As for the price? well I've seen less capable systems for way more. Personally... I'm eyeing this baby when I get the funds.

First what is your opinion of "lite" gaming... My belief is that if you are going to game get a desktop, I really dont like putting quad core cpus and gpus that should be in desktops in laptops.I will say this, dont go with dell, I have seen to many of them break due to overheating. Also most of the dells now use the stupid slot loads. I have seen that break fairly easily, Dell was good at one time but now they are not.

if its anything like my old G53V1 you can raid them easily. And as someone who's raided the XT's its screaming fast.

That's about half off retail for that machine, it should have been around 1200-1400 new, so its a pretty good deal. I know that model was well received, despite terrible battery life (common with all gaming machines) and the weight (to deal with the heat)

Idk about current ROG Laptops but I have a G50 from Spring of 2009 and it is still going strong, also if I remember correctly it has a nvidia Geforce 9800m GS in it and I could game quite well on it even playing games like Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and Dragon Age Origins with decent eyecandy and high framerates.

G50 Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor @ 2.13 GHz
Nvidia Geforce 9800M GS 512mb GDDR3 vram
4 GB DDR3 Memory
15.4" screen (1680 x 1050 I believe)

At the time I paid around $900-$1000 for my ROG laptop so it looks as if you are getting quite a nice deal

Managed to find some benchmarks for the 9800M GS and GTX 460M (all FPS listed are the averages)

9800M GS

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Low detail: 201
Medium detail: 84
High: 47

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
High: 60 FPS

GTX 460M

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare

Low detail: 301
Medium detail: 163
High detail: 101

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Low detail: 201
Medium detail: 73.2
High detail: 63
Ultra detail: 45

It seems like you are getting some pretty decent bang for your buck with that GPU especially if you are only looking for "lite" gaming.

food for thought

http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.33612.0.html

after quickly looking through, the 460m can handle most games at med settings and some at high.
