SEGA to Offer Top Games on Origin

Electronic Arts (EA) Inc. announced today that SEGA will bring its most popular PC game titles to Origin, EA's direct-to-consumer gaming platform. SEGA's Total War Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai is now available for pre-order to PC gamers on Origin.

In addition to SEGA, other new publishers joining Origin today include Team 17 Software Limited, Rebellion, Kalypso Media Digital Ltd. and more, bringing the number of game publishers and developers on Origin to 35 partners. PC downloadable titles from each of these partners will be available on Origin in the coming months.

"By partnering with publishers like SEGA, we're able to bring even more of the industry's best games to players on Origin," said Craig Rechenmacher, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for Origin at EA. "With 11 million registered users around the world, Origin is fast becoming the destination for consumers looking for fresh new content to play with their friends."

"We're delighted to be partnering with Origin. The PC Market is continuing to grow and the prospect of offering the Total War franchise and the SEGA range of PC titles to the Origin audience is very exciting," commented John Clark, UK Managing Director and PC Digital Distribution Director at SEGA.

Origin offers fast and safe game downloads for many of the industry's most popular PC titles, including Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, Star Wars: The Old Republic, FIFA 12, Batman: Arkham City, Saints Row: The Third and Rift. In addition, Origin features provide a more dynamic and convenient play experience for the gamer. Beyond the fast download capability, automatic log-in and built-in customer service, Origin in-game overlay and chat features make for a more lively social experience, and cloud saves let gamers save and continue games from any computer, anytime, anywhere. Live streaming demos on Origin also allow gamers to try some games before they buy.

For more information about Origin, please visit http://www.origin.com.

That's just for Battlefield 3 which uses Battlelog. No other game in my Origin library does that.

I don't mind using Origin. The only thing that I see that would be much more helpful is a more intuitive backup system. As far as I know, te only way to backup game files is to copy the entire folder manually then copying it back, and letting it reinstall. I find Steam's backup service much better.

This is pretty funny. If my memory serves me correctly, didn't EA say they wouldn't publish games for the Dreamcast back when Sega still had 1 leg to hop around on? And EA not supporting the DC pretty much was the beginning of the end for Sega's console division. Now EA is all open arms for Sega to let them sell games on Origin? I know the name of the game is money and profit, but wtf?

With that level of incompetence, they will *never* keep up with Steam

Ah I didn't know that, BF3 is the only game I have that use's Origin so that's why I kind of jumped the gun there. I would still prefer not having to load Origin though, that way it's all the less system processes running in the background, I hate that about steam to.

They said top games. Obviously they mean Toe-Jam and Earl, and ONLY Toe-Jam and Earl.

So past games of Total War series and Sonic/Classics collection? Meh.

Difference is, Steam has really improved a lot since the old days. Origin is still in beta. That is right, its only beta. EA screwed over Valve, pushed new games exclusives, and became even more hated...all over beta software. Boggles the mind wondering who at EA thought this would all end up being a good idea. Just think how much more they could have made had they not been this stupid.

That's wonderful. good luck trying to find anything on that pathetic attempt at a game store. The Origin app and website are fine for finding EA games, but outside of that it's impossible to browse non ea games.

Do anyone see the irony that EA published games like Desert Strike and Madden on SEGA Genesis platform in the 90s, and today it is the other way around?

Origin is alright, I still buy a majority of my games through Steam. But then, I'm an admitted fanboy.

the begining of the end for the dreamcast was its drm (read lack of) and it not updating firmware which meant they could never lock the console to real disks, ea saw that and knew they wouldnt sell any games, well only a small % as piracy was rife on it and the ps1 at that time.

Good side, the growth of Origin might push Valve -and publishers- into -hopefully- lowering prices on some games. Plus more deals being thrown around.
The bad side, we will see more Origin exclusives. I believe most -if not all- upcoming EA AAA titles will be released only on Origin.
