new laptop cant find tv over WiDi
my new asus laptop supports WiDi but i cant seem to get it to work.
i have 2 samsung 5000 series 46in led tvs both hard wired to my router. drivers are installed in the laptop and i have the Intel MWT center installed. when i go to add device it doesnt give me any options and just goes back to the intel MWT center with no new device added. i've reinstalled the drivers and it hasnt changed a thing. anyone know how this shit works? |

The TV has to support WiDi, and I'm not sure there are many that actually do, and I'm pretty sure the Samsung 5000 doesn't. So you would need a special WiDi adapter connected to one of the HDMI ports of the TV.
The ethernet port on the TV is there for DLNA streaming, not WiDi.

At this point, I don't think any, I was looking at the 8000 series and even they don't support it. It seems like TV manufacturers have just started announcing that they will be releasing models that support WiDi. I don't know any TV currently on the market that support WiDi natively, at least none in a reasonable price range.
You'd probably just be better off setting up these receivers, they are only $55. Though I think they only do 720p, maybe 1080i, if you want 1080p you'll need the $100 PTV2000.
